I believe they, Leica, has stated that there was a bad batch of transistors. Whether these transistors where the total cause of all the SDS I don't believe that has ever been stated. What brand bayonets are you thinking of that would have pieces breaking off? My M8s, of course, have been lens test platforms and I have had all kinds of lenses on and off them constantly - nearly every Leica, CV and Zeiss lens currently made - and I've never (knock wood) had a shutter problem. The finish quality of the CV and Zeiss bayonets is excellent. I don't think CV lenses, themselves, have anything at all to do with shutter failures. I know that when I first started putting certain lenses on my M8, I found them really tight, and would discover small amounts of metal filings in the mouth of the camera. This happened with older lenses and adapters, but not with modern Leica lenses, but I am pretty sure that I recall that others have had the same problem with modern Leica lenses. After that, Leica told me they had changed a transistor because it might have been from a faulty batch. I hadn´t had SDS on my camera (yet). Every now and then a ember appears here, who gets under everybody's skin with his patronizing comments. Vinay seems to be one of those. Some of us tolerate it and some don't. Personnally there are too many scared rabbits running around here and it is not cloak and dagar stuff either coming from Leica. Big hole theory is the answer , something has got in did the damage and left the scene and there are no clues to what happened . Also it could be anything rear lens caps , metal shavings even a freaking golf ball would fit in there. If you get dust than you can get almost anything in that hole, i already have pumped in the high 5 digits on each body without a shutter issue. Having seen the attractive persons in the pictures you posted of some golf rounds, I'm not surprised you got confused an put a golf ball instead of a lens on the camera.
