etrigan63 Posted October 24, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Getting a CV 75mm Color-Heliar f/2.5 + Milich adaptor. Which lens code should I use? The Summarit 75mm is closest in specs, but no one has seen the code yet. I spoke to Sean Reid and the lenses he tested had pits but no code. Any ideas? Advertisement Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Hi etrigan63, Take a look here What code to use on a CV 75mm Color-Heliar?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lars_bergquist Posted October 24, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 24, 2007 I would recommend that you use the lens uncoded until we know the code for the 75mm Summarit. I use mine uncoded; there are no vignetting issues to worry about. I have in fact not coded any lens above 35mm (modern Leitz/Leica 90mm lenses are of course self-coding). gesper Posted October 24, 2007 Share #3 Posted October 24, 2007 I use mine uncoded (but with a filter) after reading Sean's review. I have been thrilled with it. You could have saved some money by getting a normal CV adapter rather than a Milich, but may you can sell it or use it on another lens.
egibaud Posted October 24, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 24, 2007 Hi, I coded mine as 75 summicron but at that time, there was no Summarit around ! maybe I'll repaint it soon. Eric
sean_reid Posted October 24, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 24, 2007 Uncoded with a filter works just fine. The Summarit 75 probably will be the best matching code but it isn't really needed except to identify the lens in EXIF. Cheers, Sean
etrigan63 Posted October 25, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted October 25, 2007 While I realize that the code isn't really necessary for the performance of this particular lens, I do like the lens data recorded in EXIF and you never know what they might dream up in the future. And seeing that Leica is a big fan of backwards compatibility, better safe than sorry.
thai.charlie Posted October 25, 2007 Share #7 Posted October 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I hope what they dream up in the future is user selectable lenses in the camera menu. No more coding!
sean_reid Posted October 25, 2007 Share #8 Posted October 25, 2007 While I realize that the code isn't really necessary for the performance of this particular lens, I do like the lens data recorded in EXIF and you never know what they might dream up in the future. And seeing that Leica is a big fan of backwards compatibility, better safe than sorry. In that case, you'll probably settle on the 75 Rit code once we know what it is. egibaud Posted October 25, 2007 Share #9 Posted October 25, 2007 I hope what they dream up in the future is user selectable lenses in the camera menu. No more coding! That could be an option... but.... when I see people complaining about selecting 16-18-20 for a Wate, I cannot imagine having to select the lens set-up every time. gwelland Posted October 25, 2007 Share #10 Posted October 25, 2007 I hope what they dream up in the future is user selectable lenses in the camera menu. No more coding! Like many of the decisions, this is simply a marketing choice! There is absolutely no technical reason why they couldn't do this but plenty of commercial reasons why they want to make it inconvenient to use competitors and un-coded lenses. I'm as guilty as anyone as far as breaking down and purchasing new Leica glass, even to replace some Zeiss lenses I already have that's of arguably equal or better performance. Effectively it's Leica arm-twisting customers to buy or code Leica only glass to go with their M8. Although we know here about self-coding & 3rd party milling/ring solutions from JLM and others, I'm sure that the vast majority of Leica purchasers are under the impression that only Leica glass works well with the camera. I'm certain that Leica are happy to keep it that way.
etrigan63 Posted October 26, 2007 Author Share #11 Posted October 26, 2007 In that case, you'll probably settle on the 75 Rit code once we know what it is. Cheers, Sean Here's hoping I get to see a coded lens at the Demo Day on 11/3/2007! Fun stuff!
