I think Leica and Nikon are so good with filters not because of the camera business but because they make graded contrast filters for microscopy. 
 

I’ve collected a whole arsenal of Nikon 52mm for Q2M. Fit on Q2M with a Haoge 52mm hood - inside front mount so I don’t need to remove the hood like Leica E49. Some are color correction but my Monochrom doesn’t know haha! Surprisingly the blues really help me get creative.

And here’s a nice set of Marumi 49mm B&W contrast which cost me ¥1,800 …. ~$15. Made in Japan. Marumi IS Hoya - which is 3rd fiddle in the optics glass world. Leica equivalent is ¥51,000 !!
