Hey there. During initial testing with my new Leica SL2 S, I noticed the following problem:

When I record video in L-Log with LUT preview "natural“ on, I notice a small color shift after pressing the playback button. While filming everything looks fine but when playback in camera the clips appear a little darker/contrasty/more saturated - it almost looks like a little gamma shift or a 709/2020 issue...
This is very annoying and feels like a bug - especially since the preview frame of the video looks fine and only after pressing play does the video appear darker...

Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong, or has noticed something similar... I hope it's not a special feature of my sl2s:)?

Hello,

I use the CINCE  Recording Mode and I use my own LUTs and sometimes the in Camera LUT and I don't see any color shifts. Same goes with Video. Can you give us more details what your setup is?

Are you using an external Monitor? You can modify the LUT Settings in Camera, like less saturation....!  If that helps.

Hey PANGAEAmedia, thanks a lot for your fast respond! To my setup: Im using the SL2-s as a B-Cam on set or location tours normally as naked and small as possible (so no external recorder) with a couple m lenses. Same as you I m filming in "Cine" Mode with L-Log 10bit All-I 400Mbps switching between Leica LUTs and my own once. During recording everything looks fine exposure and colors look good but when I playback the clip afterwards in camera it turns darker and more saturated after pressing the play button...

When Im using my external small HD I don't have the color shift and the video plays normal only internally on the LCD or EVF I see this strange shift.  I just checked no matter which LUT is on or even with no LUT in pure L-Log preview I recognize this shift when pressing play...

I just made a fast little rough clip filming my LCD when pressing the play button...  so you see the phenomena... (here its not so annoying but in low light with skin tones it is fucked up to check exposure afterwards...  once I had the situation filming someone in low light, the exposure looked fine while recording, but after pressing play I (almost) couldn't see the face anymore which I was able to see while recording ...very strange really feels like a gamma shift... In DaVinci everything looks fine...mmmh you see this on your camera as well?!)

Oh wow interesting! Yeah it really looks like it puts a LUT on top of an already previewing LUT... or it is a Rec. 709 / 2022 issue ...maybe @hansvons has an Idea (sorry for tagging you - I was reading your great comments and felt you really played through color management of the leica sl2s:)

...does other have the same issue? If so it should definitely be on the list for next firmware update (If there will be one at all🤞🤞🤞)

No idea what's going on there, as it's internally in the camera. I can only guess. I never came across it, as I never pressed the playback button. When in doubt, I shoot another take. And checking critical focus is useless on that small monitor. For that, you want all the bells and whistles, which means a proper cine camera and not the little marvel the SL2-S is.
