alexc Posted October 24, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted October 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I will be able to borrow this lens for one day to try. If I want to try it for street shooting lets say at f8. With wate i do the following: put hyperfocal mark at one step down (5.6) and everything between 8 on the left side and 5.6 on the right side is basically in focus, between 3.5 feet and hyperfocal, so I can shoot without focusing and it works very good. obviously the same principle applies to summilux 35/1,4, however the DOF scale is much more dense and it is difficult evaluate DOF. any practical advise. Advertisement Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Hi alexc, Take a look here summilux 35/1/4 asph for street shooting.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jamie Roberts Posted October 24, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted October 24, 2007 Put in on f8 and read the DOF range for f5.6 and set the infinity mark of the lens there. Then read the left side at 5.6 and see how close you can be. Without actually checking the lens my bet is you're good from about 20 feet. Tweak as necessary--and I would tweak--you're not usually street shooting at infinity. Much better to get 5 feet to 15 or 20 feet. Â Personally, I'd just use my eyes and shoot it at f4 or 3.2, where the thing is fabulous. You should try 1.4 as well. It's not as if it's that obtrusive. Â And you could also try putting it on about f2 and "feeling" the focus ring while hip-shooting. To me that's the best, and it works better than I thought it would. When the focus knob is straight down I believe you're at 3.5 feet

rob_x2004 Posted October 24, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted October 24, 2007 any practical advise. Â Yes. Go here, download the "Technical data" pdf which has good diagrams and get the hang of, or a feel for teh depth of field for this lens. The 35mm is pretty considerate.
