Using my old 135mm Tele-Elmarit on the M8

Just got back from East Africa where I found that this 1960s lens, with "eyes" optical attachment did a terrific job of photographing animals where the effective focal length of about 180mm is appropriate. Using the 1.25x eyepiece magnifier on the M8 I had absolutely no problem focusing, even in poor light. Being pretty bulky, it's a lens to leave on the camera for several hours, not to change out frequently.

Just had some images printed up and was very impressed, though I need to get a UV/IR filter for it.

And, happily, it's a very cheap lens by Leica (or most any manufacturer's) standards.

Hi Frank,

Assuming you meant the Elmarit 2.8/135 with goggles, I have one too, use it on the M8. I had it coded and adjusted and I use the IR cut filter as well. As you said, a bit bulky but easy to frame and focus. I use the 1.25x magnifier as well. See the picture below. Does it for moving targets as well...
