barnack Posted October 21, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently converted a Contax G Hologon 16mm f/8 to Leica M. I am currently using it on a Epson R-D1, The first pictures I have taken with this converted lens have excessive vingetting. Does anyone else have experience using this lens on either a Leica M8 or the Epson R-D1? I would like to know what sort of results you have recieved. The Hologon has the same problem, therefore it was supplief with a special filter..
doubice Posted October 21, 2007 Share #3 Posted October 21, 2007 Both the 16mm Hologon for the Contax and the 15mm Hologon for Leica have to be used with the graduated filter; otherwise you get excessive vignetting - as you found out. The filter effectively turns the Hologon into an f:16 lens though...... Best, Jan
Etruscello Posted October 21, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 21, 2007 I have used the Zeiss 16 f8 Hologon (G to M mount) on the M8 without significant vignetting. The trick is to get it coded. Black and White photos are superb -- just set the M8 to lens dectection on. Color photos are somewhat problematic because the M8 WATE menu doesn't fully correct the Hologon for cyan corners as well as it does the WATE itself. DAG did a superb job, not only on the conversion, but also on the coding. Don Goldberg also trimmed the lens protrusion metal so that the Hologon can be used on the M8 in Auto Exposure mode. He's super! Tom P.
Guest user8952 Posted October 21, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 21, 2007 please tell me: with the 15 mm heliar, where is the need for a converted hologon? I know, that beforde the introduction of the heliar and the WATE it was the only possibility, but now?
