Trying to re-assign the above to: thumb-exp comp, front/top wheel-f adj.

No luck. Default is thumb-f adj., front/top wheel-exp. comp.

When leica says MF lenses, do they mean only their own MF?..w/their own adapters?..or am I missing something in my efforts?

I am using Zeiss lenses (canon mount) thru Sigma MC-21

After I posted I got them working the way I wanted.

I put on my 24-70 af elmarit, reset both wheels, so f/top wheel, exp.comp/thumbwheel....then I put back on mc21 w/zeiss, set exp.com/thumbwheel, 'magnification'/top...and it works!

Looks to me like some kind of software glitch or maybe glitch by design??....anyway, it works.

That's interesting... so if I understand it correctly, it may need a L mount AF lens attached in order to apply the changes, but once they are applied it will stay that way even if you switch to a "dumb" MF lens? If so, that is great to know!

there are independent setting for AF lenses, and for MF lenses.

there are separate option for video, and photo.

?...not sure what is your input here...but the solution to my original question was found by my wife's husband ;)

so all is good

well you initial description was showing the Wheel assignment for MF-lenses

then you put on an AF lenses and of course it uses a different setting.

I was just saying that you have to change it in the section you want to use. Wheel assignment for MF-lenses or Wheel assignment for AF-lenses

to top all that  the Photo menu is independent from the VIDEO menu system.
the changes that you apply in photo don't reflect in video menu, they can be totally different.

I think the key is that you need a native lens for ANY of the settings to take effect. IOW, then you can change the settings for both AF AND MF. But, if you try to use a non-native "dumb" lens with adapter, then none of the settings take effect. At least, that's how I understood it.

1.Put AF Leica on, set tw=comp, set topw=f

2.Remove AF Leica, put on mc21 w/non leica MF lens...resetted tw+topw are there

you know you are still using the AF compensation settings, right? F-stop is an AF setting only, that make sense because a lens with no electronic contacts can have an F-spot change by the camera.

the mc21 is what get detected from the camera, not the MF lens that has only : ISO, Shutter speed, Magnification

I use the MC21 with canon Tilt-shift lenses, the focus is manual, but the rest of the lens is just like an AF lens, EF lenses f-stop is changed in camera.

Great, let me know once you find a way to set the joystick to AEL instead of zoom for manual lenses (e.g. M-Lenses) ;)

Sorry, don't have M-lenses and not planning to go this route for my SL2

I have a full array of prime Zeiss ZE, including a couple of Otus...plus few Canon EF

Price/quality/delivered image of Leica M vs. price/quality/delivered image of Zeiss tells me to stick with Zeiss.  Another factor would be the lens size...I am 6-4" with large hands fellow...just don't see myself fiddling with f-stop/focus ring on small M-lenses attached to a rather large body of SL2

So what does the Joystick button do on your end? And can you configure it?

Strange, whatever I choose, it will always trigger Magnification ("zoom" in German :) )

Edit: it's interesting this works with the MC-21. With my Sigma Lenses (when turned to MF) it also works. Only the M-L Adapter acts out.

At least I haven't had any issue with it. I have one on magnification and one on exposure compensation, nothing is greyed out.

I would go step by step thru main menu and check any/all features that may relate/impact presence of MF lens...sample:mechanical shutter on?...does this make a difference? etc etc...try assigning zoom to , say FN button on front...see if this makes a difference etc etc...good luck
