Gitzo SA | le choix des professionels The first Gitzo tripod I had prior to the carbon models had the ball head Max suggested. mitchell Posted October 20, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 20, 2007 I use a Gitzo 1227 with the smallest Really Right Stuff ball head. I think is matches the M8 perfectly. I don't think the 1227 is still available, but something as good the same size from Gitzo is. You can get the Really Right Stuff ballhead with a simple lever that clamps onto an Arca Swiss type camera plate. It's a great very light system. After using it a little, it all becomes automatic. I am delighted with the combination. It matches up very well with my Leica M8 and is portable enough that I can carry it in the saddlebag of my motorcycle (something I can't do with most tripods, as their folded-up lengths are too long). Jeff I have nearly the same two alternatives for my M8s...I carried the GT1540T with a small Leica table top Ball Head to europe..I also had the similar traveler monopod . The monopd is so small and light it would fit in my travel vest . I use a small RRS clamp and a RRS plate on the M8. For a bit more heft at home I use the 1228 gitzo and a BH40 RRS ball head. The traveler Gitzo are steady enough for most applications fit in carryon luggage. I also have the generic RRS L plate that fits the M8 ..this is nice for verticles using the BH40 head. mym6is12 Posted October 20, 2007 Share #10 Posted October 20, 2007 A few others have mentioned the Gitzo Traveler - I got a Traveler GT1550T this summer. I used it mainly with a ND 6 stop filter to get blur motion. It is superb and with the camera bag hanging of the hook on the bottom very stable. It's extension at 146cm is a bit shorter than you wanted, but it's tiny folded size and 1kg weight, make the trade off worthwhile. It means that it fits into a day bag and is not left at home, as my Gitzo 1228 was 95% of the time. Welcome, dear visitor! Super sturdy when at full extension (keep in mind size/weight catagory) and super small when collapsed. Shop around as prices vary quite a bit.
