johnbuckley Posted October 19, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I distinctly remember a year ago, taking my M7 to a pumpkin patch and saying, only a few more weeks til the M8 is out... only a few more weeks. Today, I went out to a pumpkin patch in the Washington suburbs, and was delighted to have the M8 and my Noctilux along. Back focus, front focus, soft focus, who cares (or at least I don't.) egibaud Posted October 19, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 19, 2007 Well I am waiting for Halloween to get them at night at 1.0 LOL This is so funny to see your pics, when I got the Noctilux I happened to be reviewing pics I took at Halloween last year, taken with a Panasonic FZ30, and the first thing I thought was, wish I had a Noct then :-) So you have officially opened a Halloween Noctilux at 1.0 contest for this year 2007 :-) First one to post pics, please create a thread in photo forum... under People. erl Posted October 20, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 20, 2007 John, I agree with you that the M8 + Noct is a fabulous combo, but your two pics presented here are a lttle disturbing to my eye. The OOF rendering in the first one is not attrractive. This does happen sometimes, but not always. I am still working on a theory to do with light direction and quality to explain it. The second pic has OOF rendering that is anything but smooth. I believe in this instance it is caused by the backlight harshness. Softer light in this situation is much more flattering to image quality with the Noct. I suspect that maybe file compression may be playing a part here as well. For me, and maybe you too, the pics that turn out great with this difficult, but delightful combo make it so worthwhile. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

The second pic has OOF rendering that is anything but smooth. Well, few members indicated in this forum that the nocti creates disturbing bokeh. Though bokeh is a matter of personal taste, I personally prefer the lux & that exactly what I use. Don't mean to be a joy killer and start a Nocti vs Lux war.
