Drazgose war memorial, Slovenia, which commemorates the battle between Slovene partisans and Nazi Germany armed forces, which took place between 9 and 11 January 1942. After suffering heavy losses, the Nazi forces set fire to the village, shot 41 hostages and deported the remaining residents. Yours truly in the picture. Typ 246 + R 28 PC.

I'm a huge fan of your pictures Giulio! This one is perhaps the one I like the best so far, simply because it has room for a human being. Art in totalitarian regimes have traditionally been ugly, blunt, monumental and megalomaniacal - and always huge! Your style of photography and the use of black and white serves to strengthen these traits - and then sometimes turn them into something beautiful. Keep them coming!

Thanks for this series of photos. It is impossible for me to express how or why, but these monuments capture, perfectly, what I have always imagined was the character of the societies that constructed them. Your presentations of them are magnificent.
