giordano Posted October 21, 2007 Share #41 Â Posted October 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) In my admittedly limited experience with the D200 I was VERY unimpressed with its manual-focus capability (with battery inserted). "VERY unimpressed" is a gross understatement. My uncensored response is not printable in a public forum. Â Using the focus confirmation light as a "rangefinder" I seem to do as well (or badly) as with a K screen on a manual Nikon.

Alessandro Fanchin Posted October 21, 2007 Share #42 Â Posted October 21, 2007 It is for me an old story, I posted many comments against autofocus in the previous version of the Leica Forum. Here is a summary: Â 1. Autofocus uses energy. A camera without autofocus has a couple of small batteries that last for a year and more. Â 2. Autofocus is distracting. You have to pay attention about how it is working, in the center of the image, in another part, etc. Â 3. For the great majority of pictures autofocus is completel useless. And in many pictures it could take you to make errors, especially for pictures white very little time to shoot. Â 4. Even if I shoot with my small digital camera (Nikon) I cannot stand autofocus and it delay in the shooting. Therefore I am considering to buy a digital camera that wroks well with the autofocus deactivated, I mean that it should have the focus ring on the lens. Any suggestion? Â 5. Autofocus is something electronic and takes away a part of the long lasting value of an optical device. Â 6. For all these reasons, I keep using my Nikon FM3a and I am buying now 3 more non-autofocus lenses. Â Alessandro Padova - Italy
