Hello:

I am an M8 user and am interested in purchasing a Voightlander Nokton M mount 35mm F/1.2 aspherical lens from B&H due to their return policy.

My query may seem inane but I wonder how I would go about determining if the stock that B&H carries is of the latest vintage in regards to the M8 required modifications (It is my understanding that earlier versions of the lens demonstrated some difficulty with focus to infinity on the M8 and I doubt that the B&H sales staff will be capable of providing the desired answer )?

Thank you in advance.

B&H's return/exchange policy should mitigate the risk,

(as long as you're within the return/exchange time period).

though if their 35/1.2 inventory is relatively freshly stocked

(within the last 3-4 months) it'll most-likely be the revised

lens, (and one that came revised from the factory, rather

than modified after the fact).

Why don't you just call them? If there's a problem you can always return the lens too. If they aren't helpful (the folks can sometimes be 'abrupt' on the phone - I'm not sure if this is a cultural thing or not ... ), then I would suggest that this is a good reason to use a specialist who perhaps cares more about YOU. Vote with your wallet. I've done a ton of business with B&H and they're great as a mail-order company.

Personally I've never had any issues with Stephen Gandy at Camerquest and he has always been helpful to talk to, offers product at a very competitive price and has always shipped perfect stock to me. I've bought seven lenses and associated accessories from him over time and I've never had a single issue.

Get one from CameraQuest, great shop to deal with and he knows CV...

Also even if you get a non-M8 ready 35 Nokton elsewhere he can fix it for a fee or free if you buy a new lens. Don't you really want a 12mm?

I could be interested in your CV12mm ......

May You send me a PM or mail at mauribix@gmail.com_remove-this ?

cheers

Maurizio

Hello:

Thank you all for your replies and suggestions.

As for cameraquest, their disclaimer indicates that they have a restocking fee for returns, however, a good night's sleep brought with it an early morning epiphany and the question has become moot! I have placed an order for the Leica 35mm F/1.4 aspherical.

Thank you once again.

Erm, that sounds like a non-sequitor. I didn't realise that you were even considering one. Also, "aspherical" or "ASPH."? It says so on the front of the lens. The "aspherical" was hand-polished and is way more expensive, with performance being almost identical. Great lens in either case; also one of my favorites.

after all what I've read about buying CV lenses, and adding my own experience to this, I would NOT consider buying a CV lens from anyone except cameraquest.com

Brilliant service, price, shiping etc.

Hmmm, so you're wondering where to get a Chevy but it's now moot because you slept on it and bought a Bugatti .... okey dokey then .... :p

Actually, I was considering it but the $3600.00 price tag was an initial deterrent. In any event, Kurland Photo in NYC did have one in stock (ASPH.) and I arranged to have it FedEx'd overnight. I am not in the habit of plugging suppliers, however, since several posters have already done so I feel no guilt in saying that I have done business with Kurland Photo for over 20 years and can recommend his services without reservation, having received nothing less than the most professional, courteous and personal treatment imaginable from the knowledgeable proprietor.

Best regards and thank you all for your input.

a Chevy?

Cheers,

Sean

Ok, Corvette Z06 then? (Stupendous value for money, out performs most vehicles that cost much much more ... consider 'lowly' by the snobs etc etc). I certainly wasn't thinking of an analogy of a Chevy Nova ...
