christoph_d Posted June 16, 2006 Share #1 Posted June 16, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just a question to the english speaking internationals here: is "human" the right title for pictures of people or should it perhaps be "people" instead? With kind regards, C.

lambroving Posted June 16, 2006 Share #3 Posted June 16, 2006 Christoph, Interesting question. There is probably a word which represents mankind and the human condition better than "Human", but "People" is probably not the answer. Not being very original, I don't have the answer, but when you find the right word for this category, I will know it Regards, William
abrewer Posted June 16, 2006 Share #4 Posted June 16, 2006 Hi Christoph! There's nothing wrong with "Human" or "People" or "Mankind" or even "Us" as a heading. Any of these words serves equally well in my estimation. Thanks. Allan

brianv Posted June 24, 2006 Share #6 Posted June 24, 2006 Many of the large "English-Based" forums use the term "People" for the gallery of "People-Pictures". The term that always confused me is "Environmental Portraits". That theme is (I think) for "people in their native surroundings". The wording seems more appropriate for close-ups of wildlife and nature. English is not always the most logical language.
Guest bresson Posted June 24, 2006 Share #7 Posted June 24, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) The English language being logical is not the problem it's the "Doublespeak" or "Politically Correct" use of the language. What's wrong with using the description (noun) People, Places and Things? b.
brunom Posted June 25, 2006 Share #8 Posted June 25, 2006 Christoph I think 'people', 'human portraiture' or just 'portraits' would be ok. To some extent it depends on what they are doing - such as 'people at work', whereas 'humans at work' just doesn't do it ! Bruno
