DeLallo Posted October 17, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Downloading to a computer from the M8 gives me a raw file with a DNG extension. When I click to open it it doesn't open in Acobe Camera Raw- It opens in Photoshop CS3 instead. Even when I press command/R it won't open. I'm using a Mac5 OS10.4.10. Any suggestions. Thanks Gene
Advertisement Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Hi DeLallo, Take a look here M8 & Adobe Camera Raw. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mat_mcdermott Posted October 17, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 17, 2007 Adobe Camera Raw never opens other than as a helper application to Photoshop. Are you saying that it goes straight into Photoshop, skipping the ACR interface?

Philinflash Posted October 17, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 17, 2007 Gene, I am a PC user of CS3 and I am not familiar with Mac protocols. Nonetheless, I know that Windows protocols require the user to select "file associations" for each file type usually with some defaults preset. Therefore, you may need to look at the analogous Mac settings and set it so that DNG files default to Bridge for opening, as I have set up my PC. I also note that Bridge Preferences give you the option of specifying file type associations. I think this changes the settings I discuss above. Go to Bridge->Edit->Preferences "File Type Associations" DNG and select Bridge 2.1. Good luck. Philip Kozloff
mat_mcdermott Posted October 17, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 17, 2007 Are you shooting jpegs along with the DNG file? I can't think of what else would be causing it. I'm running the same set up as you are and have never experienced it. It may sound basic, but have you tried rebooting since the problem started? Tony C. Posted October 17, 2007 Share #6 Posted October 17, 2007 Although I haven't experienced your problem, there is a basic Mac move which may help to resolve it. Click (just once) on a DNG file to highlight it. Then press the apple key and the i key simultaneously. That will open up an information box relating to the file, telling you its size, etc. There is an option in the box which reads "open with". Click on that tab, and choose the application which you would like to have open the file. In your case, be sure to also choose the "change all" option, which will insure that all DNG files will be opened with the specified application. The only reason that this method would not work is if the file cannot be opened by your application of choice. But in that case, you won't be given the option anyway. Good luck! Regards, Tony C. Shootist Posted October 17, 2007 Share #7 Posted October 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The only thing I can think of is IF you set something in PS to assigned certain RAW cenversion presets and to go straight into PS. In PS go to Preferences then File Handling. Is "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for Supported Raw Files" checked. If no check it.
alexc Posted October 17, 2007 Share #8 Posted October 17, 2007 Do you import pictures to Iphoto? New version of iphoto would not open DNG if you just click on it. You have to right click on the image in Iphoto and go to "show file". From there you can double click or drug image to photoshop and it will open in ACR. stunsworth Posted October 18, 2007 Share #9 Posted October 18, 2007 Hi Gene, I have something similar happen to me when I open DNG files from Microsoft Expression Media. Every so often CS3 starts to open the files directly rather than in ACR. If I shut down CS3 it's starts to open them in ACR again. This is using M8 files that have been through the DNG converter and is on a MacBook. The files are associated with CS3 by the way.
