Rogwp Posted October 17, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am having fun with my M8 and the new 2.8/28 (thanks to someone in Canada who ordered this lens 5 months ago, and then changed their mind - I had to wait 5 days for it!) . I am expanding my lenses and have ordered a cv12 from Stephen, and purchased a 1965 2.8/90 Elmarit. This old lens is in great shape but will not mount on my M8. It is too tight to turn far enough to click:( . Is this normal with older lenes? The more important question is - what do I do? File it, lube it, or what? Any help appreciated, Roger

The M8 mount is very tight, try some lube on the camera mount making sure you keep it away from the lens coding sensor strip.

(does the old 90 mount on an older M-camera without problems? I would check that first!

If you read the manual for any M camera, including the M8, it states that you SHOULD lube the lens and or the camera mount periodically. Not sure why you would say it will ruin the camera or lens? I'm not talking about dunking it in a vat of 30 weight motor oil.
michael_b_elmer Posted October 17, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 17, 2007 Let Leica look at it and, in case, lube it.

Thanks Ed, it worked:) The lens is still stiff, but it locked on, and is useable. I put a very little vaseline under the top of the lugs and that did the trick. I guess the lens had not been used for some time. Roger
