I am just wondering how serious service is rangefinder alignment on M8? What I experience at this moment is that when I focus, verticals are perfectly overlapping (perfect focus) where the horizontal lines are still "double"

Anybody had this issue?

Am I looking to a "visit to NJ"?

Thanks

Steven, If you mean that a dot would never meet itself, just pass above/below, then the adjustment is behind the Leica dot. It isn't difficult to adjust, but getting the dot off is quite tricky, or will destroy the dot (it is cheap to replace though). Some M8s apparently have had this adjustment sealed with lacquer by Leica. Mine was not sealed.

As it happens, I just finished packing up my M8 to send to Leica today... rangefinder seems slightly off in the vertical aspect (meaning: horizontal lines are doubled).

I suppose this sort of thing is common enough with RF cameras, and the rangefinder may need to be adjusted from time to time.

tried two M8s, they are all over the place, one works with 90 macro elmar (6 bit version) but does not work with 28 cron (again 6 bit) (it does not reach infinity). maybe that is the price you pay for a handmade mechanical mount, each with a character as LFI puts it. That might also explain the price increase for M8. Leica says the increase goes to the ongoing production improvement, but the auto WB still sucks one year on.

As Leica will explain each and every such price increase: the unexpected complexity in making rangefinder (or whatever) works perfect has made the price increase necessary. That is at least what they put forward as the reason in the case of WATE.

when you read this forum, it is more often than not than you find people sending back their equipment, be it body or lens, for adjustment to Solms, image the labour costs on Solms' part.

but Leica is still Leica, and I love it.
