Not sure about the collectible value. I have one. It is a beautiful lens, but backfocuses quite a bit. I don't know whether this version is more prone to this problem. There is/was one for sale on eBay for over $3000 with no taker. Don't remember exact amount. If you get one, you'll need to find the frame of an old Leica slim UV filter and swap in the UV/IR glass of either a Leica or B+W filter. The current Leica 43mm UV/IR filter frame is too big for the removable hood. At least that was true with the filter Leica shipped me.

I haven't seen one yet (I wasn't aware they had shipped) but unless Leica have done something stupid with the UV/IR, their latest 43mm UV filter mount incorporates a circumferential groove into which the attachment claws of the hood secure, i.e. the hood secures to the filter, it is not meant to pass it by and secure to the lens. What I do understand to be true is that the Leica 43mm UV/IR is only available in silver chrome.

The future collectibility of any Leica item is to an extent governed by its rarity, and these lenses have been produced in low volume and are unlikely to ever be offered as regular-production alternatives to the standard version (as was the case with the 50/2.8 which sprang from the M6J limited edition).

You are correct. My memory is failing me a bit and getting my stories mixed up. However, there is still a problem...

Leica 43mm IR filter is only available in silver (as far as I know) and can be used with the black paint LHSA hood. You can't really see the color difference under the hood but if you want to match the color.... It is, however, too big for the old silver Lux version 2 hood (at least in my case). So in order to get the right color for the black paint Lux or the right fit for the old Lux, one has to go through this swapping for either lens.

I am using a 486 B+W 43mm glass in an old black Leica UV mount for the LHSA Lux (the B+W mount is too big) and still have the 43mm silver Leica IR filter that's too big for my old Lux hood.

Sorry for the confusion.

The hood will not secure over a Heliopan 43mm. In addition, beware that the glass inside a Heliopan 43mm filter is slightly too wide in diameter to be placed into a Leica filter mount.

Mine works fine and my 50 LHSA does not back focus at all. It is a smoother focus than my previous non-LHSA aspheric.

My two hoods from my E43-mount pre-ASPH and the LHSA ASPH are interchangeable. Both secure to the Leica E43 UVa on either lens.

Interesting...Is your pre-asph hood XOOIM? Mine is and has a ridge between the two sets of claws that does not clear the filter.

I have an XOOIM for my ancient silver Summilux and a 12586 for the later black anodised mount, both have a centre ridge between the sets of claws. The filter is supposed to stop the hood at that ridge. The Leica filter mount has a groove cut into it circumferentially. The hood bayonet claws latch into that groove, not the one on the lens. At least that is true of the UVa filters. I have not seen a 43mm Leica UV/IR, but if it has no such groove then yet another serious blunder has been made. Early Leitz 43mm filters, which have no front female thread, are indeed narrower in diameter and the hoods will indeed pass by and latch to the lens itself.

Where can I get the Leica 43mm UV/IR filter in black? I thought it was only available in silver.

You can't. In the infinite wisdom of whoever was charged with the responsibility of stipulating the filters to be contracted to the unnamed Japanese source that manufactures them, no consideration was made to the thousands of black anodised Summiluxes (which are also not on Leica's code-able list despite being optically identical to the E46 version), not to mention the black-paint LHSA ASPH. One's only option would be to use the silver filter or remove the glass and install it in a black mount yourself.

Is this Len use same optic as current 50 f1.4 ASPH ? Where can I buy 43mm UV/IR filter for this Len, if normal filter is too thick?
