Hallo Zusammen,

Besten Dank!

Hi all,

unfortunately, even after a long research, I was not successfull finding an overview of the var. open aperture of the lens. I would like to know up to what focal length 2.8 as max is possible, plus what is open aperture at 200mm. Ideally would be a small table or a hint if I can simply interpolate 🙂

Many thanks!

... and if someone can  say something about the "3D pop" / bokeh  - does the lens behave similar to the fixed focal SL APOs ("2.0 looks like 1.4 on other lenses") ...

  • olzen911 changed the title to Widest aperture Leica APO-VARIO-ELMARIT-SL 90-280mm / at 200mm?

f/2.8 at 90mm

Approximately  f/3.1 at 120mm

Approximately f/3.3 at 160mm

Approximately f/3.5 at 200mm; f/3.6 at 210mm

f4.0 at 280mm

Longer focal length lenses can often show better background separation and blur than opening up shorter FL lenses. This is one reason that some use 90mm or so for portraits, even if not wide open, rather than shorter FLs.  Of course distance between camera, subject and background matter, along with lighting, subject matter, etc.

Thanks Jeff, so then interpolation seems to be pretty accurate:

... so half aperture step smaller at 200 (compared to constant 2.8 70-200s)...
