Trouble Coding lenses

I have a bunch of CV lenses. The first one I coded with a Milich adapter was the 75mm. One try and the camera recognized it. With the CV 15 and 21. I have played and played with the same nail polish and I just can't seem to get the camera to recognize the lens.

Are there any special tricks?

I've cleaned up the areas around the milling and the nail polish is not above the milling to so as not to allow the lens to be flush. And ummmm, yes I am using real codes from the link in this forum.

Thanks,

Terry

Hi Sean,

I've used exactly your method with nail polish (even the "preferred" brands listed here) toothpicks and credit card. Now on the 15 and 21 where I don't care about frame lines does it matter which milich adapter I use. I was pretty sure on the 15 I was using the adapter John sent with the hood. For the 21 I grabbed my uncoded one from the CV35. I'm short one milich adapter as I was going to try out the new CV type II.

Thanks,

Terry

Terry:

For the 15mm and WATE menu to appear, your adapter has to be coded as a WATE and the UR-IR menu has to be set on. If the UV-IR option in the M8 menu is not set to on, the WATE menu will not come up.

As others noted above, with the 21mm and the 15mm, you need the adapter that brings up the 90mm framlines. The M8 takes into account not just the coding of the lens, but also the position of the frame lines to determine which lens is mounted.

I have CV lenses and it is sometimes difficult to code the lenses. I cannot seem to code my CV 25mmP as there is a screw head right where a white coding dot is supposed to be. I may send he mount to Jim Milch for coding. As far as the other CV lenses are concerned, I have been able to use a fine tipped Sharpie and code my 15mm, 21mm, 35mm lenses. It is mainly trial and error and carefully marking the infrared sensors that are on the camera body with tape, and then transferring the marks to the adapter ring edge. Be sure you are using the proper lens code in the proper order, and not reversing it! Look at pix of how the lens coding on a Leica lens is to make sure.

Thanks,

I will go back and see which framelines are coming up. I didn't realize in the coding that the camera relied on both the code and the correct bayonet for framelines. I know the 21mm is wrong because I took it off the 35 lens. Since I wasn't going to get framelines anyway, I didn't think it mattered!

Time for some nail polish remover!

thanks all!
