LMG Posted October 13, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted October 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am finally about to buy an M8 and would like some recommendations for the lens to buy. I shoot just about anything really from portraits to landscapes, architecture, graphic details. I work for a creative agency and use it pretty much everyday... to mock things up (Print and web, film) etc... Â Can any one recommend a versatile lens? And anything else for that matter.... (wide-angle... etc) Â Â To hell with the budget (if I am going to do this I'm gonna do it proper). Although I will be getting just one lens... (to start with) Â Thanks very much in advance.. marknorton Posted October 13, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted October 13, 2007 Lawrence, welcome to the forum and good you are planning to buy an M8. Â The question "which first lens" is often asked and I think the most common response is a 28 or 35. I recommend the 28mm Summicron, a fantastic versatile lens to start off with. goodbokeh Posted October 13, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted October 13, 2007 I have film M's but if you now (or in the future will) wear eyeglasses then it may be more comfortable starting out with the 35/2 Summicron ASPH or the new 35/2.5 Summarit, to be released at the end of November . The M8's 0.68 viewfinder image of the 35mm framelines will be fully visible, with a little surround that is one of the advantages of rangefinder format. Also, that focal length will provide close to the classic 50mm perspective of the film based Ms.
