When transferring photos to my PC (Windows XP), if I go to "my computer" and turn on my M8, and drag the photos to a folder, they transfer as TIF files; but when I use Adobe Bridge (with Photoshop CS3), in Bridgs, I can get the files transferred as DNG (which I want) anyone else experience that problem? Also, I tried transferring some photos today (about 30 of them) using Bridge, but the transfer stopped and my M8 shut down/locked up after just a few transfers, with an error message. Later, when I closed some internet windows, it seemed to work ok. have you experienced any of these problems?

Arthur:

I think you need to use a M8 aware program like CS3 Bridge or Lightroom when using Microsoft Windows to transfer the file using the camera cable. Otherwise, you get Tiffs as you found out.

A better solution is to buy a card reader and use that instead. The files will copy as DNG files if you use a card reader in Windows and the normal Windows file tools.

Hi everybody ! First posting  Went from Digilux 2 to M8 : amazing jump in the digital galaxy :D

You are right, Robert. I got a card reader to get DNG files registered on computer, and it works fine, but...

The further problem I have to face is that the windows explorer doesn't show up thumbnails, only icons and filenumbers. Any solution I could expect to clear that "little" problem ? Anyway, Capture One does show stamps, while CS3 refuses to load those pics in its own browser... I guess there is a patch to Windows that exists somewhere in the jungle, but where precisely, if anyone knows ? :)

Regards.

Among other places, the files and instructions to get Windows XP to show DNG thumbnails are included with the CornerFix for Windows Executables package. Note: (a) this won't work for Vista and (B) no need to actually install CornerFix, just follow the instructions in the FAQs contained in the Quick Start document. CornerFix is here: SourceForge.net: CornerFix
