Guest leica_mage Posted August 18, 2006 Share #3 Posted August 18, 2006 He has been a great inspiration - and the site (deviantart) is a model of creative free speech, where incidents of unloading mega-boulders from one's shoulders onto other posters are extremely rare indeed! chrisweeks Posted August 18, 2006 Share #4 Posted August 18, 2006 it's a rant about street photography ... 150+ page rant but a rant nonetheless. no, i didn't do this in one night ... it took more than a few months. and i've been acused of being slanted towards making street photographs with only a leica rangefinder. go figure! chrisweeks Posted August 18, 2006 Share #8 Posted August 18, 2006 @martin: it's all good, mate. see ... its original purpose was for subscribers of deviantART.com. the fact it has been propogating it's way 'round the net ... all good. i mean ... not everyone will agree with me. not everyone will find it helpful. but ... i know it's trite ... if it helps one or two people and they pick up a rangefinder -- hopefully a leica -- and start enjoying shooting street like i do ... tutto bene! thanks again ... glad you liked it. 10.3mb ... um ... yes ... the original is 50mb and if anyone would like that for higher res just let me know. cheers martin! joebt Posted August 19, 2006 Share #10 Posted August 19, 2006 Chris I read the whole thing from cover to cover. Very inspirational indeed. Infact, I loaded up the old M6 with some 400 ASA Tri-X, and I plan to hit the bricks this weekend myself. The only thing in the book that I was unsure about was where you mentioned that the M6 could not be used without a battery the way an MP could? Other than that, the book was excellent. Good Shooting! derek_stanton Posted August 19, 2006 Share #12 Posted August 19, 2006 Thanks for the link, Martin. I read it (most of it) a few days ago. It's heavily biased, non-objective, and overly romantic. But, that's what "passion" is, isn't it? Something i need a little more of.... A good read, Chris. But, next time, let me do the typography! [how do i get the high-res version?]

I must confess that your spellers and f-bombs a not entirely my taste but nevertheless it was a nice f* reading. ;-) Thanks. Your last sentence is very true - I never leave home w/out my M also. raizans Posted August 24, 2006 Share #20 Posted August 24, 2006 sweet! can't agree that street photography is only b&w, though, or the sole domain of rangefinders. i mean, for color there's levitt, winogrand, eggleston, pinkhassov, webb, davidson, dicorcia, meyerowitz, parr, harvey, haas, leiter, etc. and for slrs, there's davidson (again), owens, moriyama, araki, koudelka, callahan, rizzuto... some even use flash (OMG). and where in these pages are walker evans, robert frank, lee friedlander?! i think the only f/1.4 lens that really makes sense is the 35 'lux, cuz you lose a stop of handholdability with the 50 'lux. well, whatever. you're going to be loading iso 1600 or 3200 film anyway at night. the m6 and m6 ttl have mechanical shutters just like the mp. ought to fix that. the other stuff is pretty awesome, though. especially the tutorial. give me the original file and i'll make it not look like crap!
