I’ve started to experiment with aperture priority mode on my Q2M.

I’m confused with the Auto ISO Minimum shutter selection and would appreciate advice.

I set the minimum shutter speed at 1/250 in order to freeze people movement.

I start shooting and it starts to select any shutter speed up to 1/250, so it may select 1/50 in low light which compromises freezing movement

But i want 1/250 to be the lowest (ie slowest) shutter speed. So I’d be cool with 1/400 etc.

Is there a solution to this or do i just need to take manually control of the shutter again!

What maximum ISO did you select? For my general photography profile I have mine set at 6400 and a minimum shutter speed of 1/125.  That works fine for me. Yes, in the dark it sometimes means the shutter speed dips low enough to engage the OIS in the lens, but I don’t mind that. For my black and white profile, the max ISO is 12800 (I don’t mind the noise when shooting for b&w) and minimum shutter speed of 1/4f just in case I’m using the digital crop, although I rarely do. I’ve never had a problem with the camera refusing to behave as expected.

Maybe play around with the settings? If the ISO is set too low the camera will quickly start reducing the shutter speed to keep within the ISO limit

Thanks Ian, the minimum shutter speed seems to work the opposite to how id expect. 1/200 is where i set it but because of this reverse thing i’m using 1/500 or 1/1000.

I use 12800 as max ISO but only let it go that far if it must. I’m no fan of noise.

You set the Aperture; it is fixed.  The camera uses the lowest ISO it can keeping the shutter speed above your minimum shutter speed, but... the camera will not use an ISO above whatever maximum you set.

If using minimum shutter speed at maximum ISO at whatever aperture you set would result in an underexposed image something has to give.  The something is shutter speed.   The camera will pick a speed below your minimum to get what it thinks is a proper exposure.

If you don't like the shutter speed the camera is using open the aperture.   Or raise the ISO limit.  Or add more light.

Pretty sure that's how it works, but I've got a Q, not a Q2M.  Maybe it's different.
