DMR with flash

I have a DMR and R8 using firmware V1.3. Everything works just fine and the results are impressive. I have however noticed that when mounting a SF20 flash or a Metz 40 MZ1 the flash gun adds 1/4 stop to the ISO speed that the DMR is set for. In other words if the DMR is set for ISO 100 the gun reads 125 and if set for ISO 400 the gun reads 500. I know that it's not critical but I am almost certain that with V1.1 and 1.2 firmware the DMR and gun were in harmony so I assume that it is a bug in V1.3. Has anyone out there experienced this?

Also any views on red eye with the DMR would be appreciated. The R8 with film rarely seemed to suffer from redeye even with a shoe mounted gun and never in my experience with a side mounted Metz 45. The DMR however is very prone to it with both types of gun.

Thanks for any help

Ian

Yes, same for me, new in V1.3 and I guess it is to avoid overexposure...

And I have no redeyes with the DMR using both a 40MZ2 and a 54MZ3. Or I do not remember them because it takes 1/10th of a second to fix them.

Not that it should not depend on the film vs digital camera you are using but only on the distance between the flash and the lens.

Thanks for the response Pascal. It's reassuring to know that the 'bug' (if that's what it is) is within v1.3 and not with my hardware.

Re redeye, all I can tell you is that I never experienced it with R8 and film - not even when using the Metz MZ44 which being shoe mounted and low profile is very close to the lens axis. I have only shot one wedding with the DMR and changed the gun to a Metz 45CL because the redeye was so pronounced on the DMR screen. It made no difference and the redeye was still awful. Still, as you say, it's quick to fix in photoshop!

Regards

Ian
