pemayeux Posted October 8, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) When processing my raw files, I have my Color Management settings under Workflow set to "Leica M8 Generic UV-IR" for Camera Profile. Under Output Destination I use "Adobe RGB 1998". Then when I process, under the Process screen, I set the Resolution to 300, Format "TIFF" and 16 bit depth. Then under Color Management Workflow I set it to "Embed Camera Profile". From there it goes to either PSCS2 or Elements 5.0 with their color space set to "Adobe RGB 1998" depending on what computer I'm using. Does this sound like the correct settings? JeffreyTotaro Posted October 9, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 9, 2007 Yup! That's a good approach.
agro Posted October 9, 2007 Share #3 Posted October 9, 2007 I do exactly that.
pascal_meheut Posted October 9, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 9, 2007 Except that by saying "Embed Camera Profile", your TIFF picture will be in "Leica M8 Generic UV-IR" color space. So your destination choice as "Adobe RGB 1998" will be totally ignored. Not a problem in itself but if you want your pictures to be in AdobeRGB, you must select "Convert to Destination instead". And the Color Space you set in PS CS2 does not matter. It is used as a default one for pictures without any embedded ICC profile. But the pictures out of C1 have one so this parameter won't be used neither.
delander † Posted October 9, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 9, 2007 Pascal is right. I now use embed camera profile instead of convert to adobe rgb. If PS is set up for adobe rgb it should warn you of a profile mismatch. In PS I convert to profile either adobe rgb or srgb as the last step depending on what I am going to do with the file. Is this the best way? Jeff

pascal_meheut Posted October 9, 2007 Share #7 Posted October 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) It depends. Some people convert at the beginning in AdobeRGB or a wider space because the camera colorspace may induce some strange phenomenoms if a lot of colour edition is done. Other like me keep the file in its original color space. If I want to send it by mail or post it on the web, I create a copy in jpeg and converts it. And finally, some work more or less like you. They archive all their files in AdobeRGB for instance. This is convenient, especially when using different cameras, over years... A few years back, AdobeRGB was a good choice: much wide than the color spaces of screen, printers... But now, AdobeRGB screens start to be available for less than $6000, printers have 12 inks and wide gamuts and spaces wider than AdobeRGB are interesting too: ProPhoto, ECI... Piers Posted October 10, 2007 Share #8 Posted October 10, 2007 My M8 shipped with C1 LE v. 3.7.5. I am now getting prompts to download v. 3.7.7. I think we are entitled to only 1 free upgrade -- so should I hold out for v.4.0? Does anyone know if any aspect of 3.7.7 would merit making the upgrade now, simply for continuing to process M8 files? Thanks for any thoughts. I downloaded the new beta version of v.4.0, which, with some reservations, I'm getting to like. A big advantage for me, since I print mainly in BW, is that each shot holds its own profile. Not entirely stable as yet but quite useable. Whether this counts as my one free upgrade, I've not yet discovered. David

Not to be confused with the free UPGRADE. Version 4 will be an upgrade, and I expect it to be free for M8 users who received LE 3.x including free 1 upgrade. You can already download and install the v4 beta1. No problem to install it besides v3.7.x (both Win and Mac).

Paul_S Posted October 11, 2007 Share #12 Posted October 11, 2007 Thank you David and Paul for your helpful advice. Piers, you're welcom. And if you decide to give Capture One 4 beta a shot, you might want to go through this thread: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/34708-capture-one-v-4-a.html in which both David, myself and many others here exchanged experiences.
