gusto Posted October 7, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted October 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just purchased one of the new Epson Perfection V500 scaners and using the digital ice function has me somewhat bafled. I want to scan mostly XP-1/XP-2 negs. which I shot with various Leica M's (I understand that ICE does not work on conventional B&W negs) but I'm findng that even when I tell the scaner that they are color negs the ICE doesn't do it's job - at least on a constant basis. Anyone on the forum have similar experience with this or am I just being a dummy and maybe haven't figured it out yet? So far only one of my cromogenic negs has responnded to the ICE properly and the rest either haven't worked at all or haven't worked well. It seems to work on the color neg I just scaned but most of my negs are going to be XP-1/XP-2 and I was under the impression that the chromogenic films would work with the Digital ICE. I'm still trying though and just did a color neg that worked just fine. But the XP films were my main medium and it would be great not to need to do all that spotting in Photoshop. I'm still experimenting but it seems awfully inconsistent to me and my negs are pretty clean to start with. Thanks for the reassurance though about XP films - they should work just fine. wparsonsgisnet Posted October 8, 2007 Share #13  Posted October 8, 2007 Gus, you might take a look at  VueScan Scanning Software  Ed Hamrick makes a product called VueScan that is superb. I have used it to interface with both the scanners I have owned and it gives wonderful control. Check out the site.  You can download a trial version at no charge and see if you like it.
