DMR File on M8 Format Card

Anybody know of a program that will open DMR files that were written to a M8 formatted card? Firmware is the latest version of both cameras. The DMR accepted the M8 formatted card without any fuss.

I can see that the files were created and are the normal 19.5 MB in sizes but Photoshop and Capture One both can not open them.

Thanks, in advance, for your suggestions!

Jeff:

Are you able to get the files off the card and on to your computer?

If you did get them off the card and onto the computer, did you just copy them or use a program to download them?

If all else fails, try putting the card back into the DMR and connect the DMR via firewire as a disk and transfer them that way.

I mentioned when the DMR 1.3 firmware came out that there seemed to be problems using M8 cards in it and Leica replied they couldn't replicate the problem.

Thanks for the tips.

I copied the files straight to the computer through my usual card reader (not through a program). I am not able to view the files in OSX finder. I popped the card back into the DMR and it will show me image #99 on the screen and that's it. It locks up and won't scroll through the other images on (I think they're on) the card.

That tells me that something should be able to read these files. Once my computer is done processing some other RAWs I'll connect the DMR to it and hope for the best.

So frustrating because I know the images are there and exist!

Thanks again!

The lock up is what I had when I tried a M8 formatted card in the DMR. I got grief from the forum that Leica should not have to plan for another cameras card being used in the DMR. After all, aren't they both Leica digitals?

You could also try putting the card back in the M8 and using it to transfer the files. I suspect whatever the problem is, the files may be gone.

Nope, the files are intact. In fact, I am now able to preview them on the LCD on the DMR! I've transferred the files from the camera to my computer but nothing will still open them.

As for compatibility between the M8 and DMR the fact that the DMR took and wrote to the card, for me, was an indication that the two systems would play nicely with each other's formatted cards.

I'm off to try it from the M8. Sounds like a lost cause.

:(

Thanks again!

Thanks for the fresh tips!

I'll check out the Graphic Converter X and see what I get.

Meanwhile, an e-mail to Leica was going to be my next step in the process. All of the files have been downloaded so, upon request, I can send them a DVD-ROM or the actual SD cards.

Hey hey, Peter! How's the silver M8 treating you? No further troubles with the shutter, I hope! Just got back to shooting with the M8 again and this was the last assignment I was using the DMR for!

Thanks for the link ...I'll check it out and see what, if anything, can be done.

Jeff,

Sorry you haven't had any luck with those DMR files. Hope Leica comes through.

The silver M8 is great ... now. When I got the camera back after the shutter was fixed (It took 3 months  ), I found that the rangefinder was still off, even though they said they ajusted it. I sent it back along with 3 lenses. I got them back after 2 months. The rangefinder was still off. Since I kew that the lenses actually work fine on another M8, I actually adjusted both near and inifinity settings myself. It works perfectly now! I would never have done it myself were it not for Carsten's successful precedent.
