Jono, congrats. This lens has something special. My Noctilux is 26 years old !

As it's my first post in this forum, I would like to thank anyone for the lessons learned I got from each of you! Great comprehension improuvment for me.

Christophe, Paris.

Hi Christophe

Congratulations and welcome . . . presumably you haven't had your own Noctilux for 26 years?

I like that second shot especially.

As others have said, f1 is a thing of splendour and wonder!

much jealousy here:)

I have an opportunity to get one mint (non coded, used) for about 4200 usd-sounds good?

With focusing the canon 85 1.2 I often found leaving the focus set and leaning in until it was right was easier than actually turning the focus ring. I suspect that noct is similar. Just rock on your feet a little...

HI Robert

I'm also a bit of a 'sway focuser', it's useful, but I find that if I'm not careful I tend to put myself off balance (and that way lies camera shake!. As for the 4200 - I don't know whether that's good or not - depends whether it has issues I guess. The joy of mine was that it was both coded and fixed!

Congrats Jono. I knew it was only a matter of time. ;>) best....Peter

LOL - Hi Peter

I hope you're well.

You knew more than I did - it had never really occurred to me until this chance turned up.

So, as you know so much . . . what's the next one I'll buy?

I'm thinking it will not be a replacement for the 85 1.2, not long enough, the 85 is already a little short in a portrait situation if you want to shoot tight, faces get round.

still I am smitten, I have a lot of clients who are paying me for that kind of look,

one advantage to a dslr is that you "see" the oof in the viewfinder and can compose "with" it. On the rangefinder it is entirely assumed.

I tried focusing with it and it seemed about 2cm backfoucusing, but I came home and checked my 50 lux and it has the same kind of backfocus, so I tweaked it a hair with the allen key and it is much closer now. so I think it might be ok.

what is interesting is that the noct is only 1 stop faster than the lux but the difference in oof is dramatic. the 85 1.2 has it even more. another plus is that both lenses are very soft in contrast at that aperture, which is favourable for portraiture.

still undecided...at least monday is a holiday and I cannot call up the shop!

Hi Paul

Check it first!!!

If it works already, then don't send it off! Maybe they're sorting them before they send 'em now?

Hi Jono,

I made a few pictures with the lens during a Leica show last week and noticed back focussing with my M8. I found out later that it was owned by a reseller (stock, demo) and I managed to buy it (with discount and full warranty). So I know I will have to send it in for adjustment. BTW: My M8 goes to Solms with ALL my lenses later this week. They can't get it right with my Lux75, Cron75 and WATE without it and now want all other lenses I am happy with to join the others, but that's another story.

Thank you.

I thought this was the last one you had resisted. Guess I don't know so much after all.....Peter

I haven't had a chance to test the focus on mine that I received earlier this week. I am hoping that Solms is making sure that ones going to M8 owners (i.e. anyone buying one under the 30% discount program) work with an M8. My M8 was supposedly adjusted when I sent it back for a shutter repair earlier this year, so I am hopeful they work fine together. I can't bear the thought of sending the Nocti back after waiting eight months for it.

Hi George

Congratulations on getting a new one - I used my 30% on a WATE. Just as a matter of interest, what is the serial number on your new one?

Mine is 3816xxx - which suggests that it's around 10 years old, but it's hard to believe looking at it.

No, it's the 24 2.8 which continually excercises my lust buds (mostly your fault), but I want a silver one (missed on on ebay for £700 in June). You haven't got a spare have you?:)

Thanks, Jono. Mine is 03985xxx. So that works out to about 17,000 per year? I can't imagine they have made that many. Maybe the serial number partially represents a date code rather than being sequential.

Congratulations, Jono. I love going on Nocti safaris -- just the one lens, with your mind's eye seeing the world through it. Here's the result of a recent exploration of the National Cathedral campus in D.C. Zenfolio | John Buckley | The National Cathedral

Cheers to you. JB
