Minolta scan dual and Windows Vista

Minolta software does not like Vista, and there are no patches available. You may have other software that will clash with the minolta stuff when run under Vista, like canon camera and printer drivers.

Vuescan works under Vista for the 5400ii, but the minolta software to the 5400ii is probably a superior application in many regards, and gets more out of the scanner. I think the latest Vuescan upgrade gave you dualscan Vista compatibility but check on his site.

I forked out for partition on one of my hard drives and installed XP on that side. While Vista is a more stable base and is what XP should have been, it is a little bit stricter to use and there are as many naff shitty trendy peculiarities as MacOSX. So unless you are a programmer....

I had the same problem with Vista and my 5400ii. XP and the Minolta software use Twain, wheras Vista does not support Twain. We will never get an update or a driver from Sony.

I use VMware Workstation 6.0 under Vista to run XP as a virtual OS within Vista. The Minolta scanning software runs under XP and I can share or copy files from XP to Vista.

Photoshop runs under Vista. This setup runs stable for six months now and I can recommend it. You need a fast processor and a lot of RAM.

I'm planning to change my PC, anyone knows if the Minolta dual scan IV will work under windows vista? I'm using Vuescan

Thanks

I haven't got anyway near to upgrading to Vista, but isn't there an option when you create a desktop icon to specify how the program should run? E.g. "as a DOS program", "as a Win98 program" etc.?

This type of option certainly exists in Win2000 and WinXP.
