self-timer versus remote cable

Hello,

I'm curious about what advantages shooting a picture by cable release has over shooting via the 2 or 10 second time feature (with camera on tripod).

In other words, is there an advantage to shelling out the $100+ if you get shudder-free shots with a self-timer?

Thanks,

John

John, I find the camera-timed shots totally sharp and no longer carry a cable release.

I use the 2-sec if I'm doing close-up stuff and the 10-sec if I need to get in the shot either to be seen or to hold the Whi-Bal card.

Of course, I always forget to turn the selector (on the M8, in my case) back to single shot. My reactions are currently still fast enuf to move the selector switch within the 2-second time, so I can cope with my assistant's lack of capabilities.

My real problem, now that my camera is a computer, is that my workflow keeps changing because I am updating SOME component in the chain every few weeks.
