Mark Pope Posted October 4, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted October 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I ask because I'm interested in finding out whether the new Vosonic VP8360 will read and display DNGs from the M8. Their site says they support 'Leica AG R8 and R9' which I take to mean the DMR.
Advertisement Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Hi Mark Pope, Take a look here M8 and DMR RAW formats the same?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

andybarton Posted October 4, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted October 4, 2007 If the experience with Aperture is anything to go by, they are not the same.
Mark Pope Posted October 4, 2007 Author Share #4 Â Posted October 4, 2007 Thanks chaps, I've left a note on Vosonic's site so it will be interesting to see of a) they reply and whether they do support M8 DNGs...
sandymc Posted October 4, 2007 Share #5  Posted October 4, 2007 The two formats are very close, but differ as regards:  a) what EXIF data is written,  data width (16-bit vs 14 bit)  c) Use of level compression - M8 uses level compression, DMR does not  Unless the Vosonic has a full DNG decoder implementation rather than specific by camera decoders, it's unlikely that DMR support implies M8 support.  Sandy
Mark Pope Posted October 10, 2007 Author Share #6  Posted October 10, 2007 If anyone's interested, I had a reply from Vosonic. Here it is verbatim... <quote> Dear Mark: Many thanks for your letter. About VP8360, which can display DNG file from the Leica M8; however, we have to improve image quality. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate and let me know. Best regards, Service Center  TEL/+886-3-5557745 ext .110  Email: emily@vosonic.com.tw  Service Center Vosonic Technology Corp. </quote>  I was pleasantly surprised to get a reply and perhaps Vosonic will do something to improve the image quality. On this basis, I'd be tempted to have a look at one of their units.  Best,
psquared Posted October 11, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted October 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wonder if it has full RAW file support for actual pixel level display. It may just be working with the embedded jpg in the RAW file.
Mark Pope Posted October 12, 2007 Author Share #8 Â Posted October 12, 2007 Quite possibly - perhaps my enquiry will encourage them to improve image quality. I'm minded to get one to replace my phototainer even if it is 'just' reading the jpeg as I can't read anything on that.
wparsonsgisnet Posted October 12, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted October 12, 2007 Looking at their manual and online specs, it may make sense to wait until they say more about SDHC.
