patashnik Posted October 3, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I got an advice posting this here, as I might get more replies. I guess this is a question of "Pricing after the fall of the $". I have three more lenses to sell before I will get my M8, and I'm having a hard time pricing them. I've had them for sale locally, but no interest. There is little info to be gathered from eBay, and I was wondering if my prices are *that* much out of sync with the market? 1) 35mm Summilux-M ASPH, black (latest version, bought in 1994) - €1500 2) 50mm Summicron-M, chrome (latest version, bought in 1993) - €600 3) 90mm Summicron-M, chrome (pre-ASPH version, bought in 1994) - €600 All lenses are pretty much like new, glass perfect, insignificant (if any) wear to the barrels. Comes with boxes, caps, hoods and Leica UV filters. I certainly am aware of the fact that chrome lenses might be harder to sell, due to most people preffering the black ones. It is not my intention to post this as a hidden ad, but the lack of interest just made me wonder how far off the market price I am. At this point: *ANY* input is appreciated... Advertisement Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Hi patashnik, Take a look here Price check: 35mm Summilux ASPH and 50/90mm Summicron (chrome). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dseelig Posted October 3, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 3, 2007 I think if I ahve my conversions right the first two lenses are in line but the 90 might be alittle high . The 90 us dollars goes for around 700 to 750 us dollars and sometimes lower . David
pekem Posted October 3, 2007 Share #3 Posted October 3, 2007 Why not just list them on eBay with a reserve and you will discover if you are being optimistic.
echorec Posted October 3, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 3, 2007 I agree with David, the prices are ok with the 90 a little high. Are you from Norway? Your prices of the 35 & 50 is approx. what they sell for used here in Sweden so I am surprised that you have not been able to sell them.
patashnik Posted October 4, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted October 4, 2007 Thank you all! This was really helpful, I will reduce the price for the 90mm accordingly.
carstenw Posted October 4, 2007 Share #6 Posted October 4, 2007 For Europe, these prices are all great. I have seen the 35/1.4A for around €1800 usually, the 50/2 for about €800 and the 90 for about €700-800 as well. These lenses are not hard to find though, so if you are in a hurry, your prices are good. What might help for the 35/1.4A is if you would test it very carefully for focus shift, by putting it on a tripod, focusing carefully on something at 2m wide open, double-check the focus, and then without touching the focus, re-shoot at f/2-5.6. If it stays in focus, advertise it as such, and you should be able to find a buyer very quickly. If not, it might take some time.
patashnik Posted October 11, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted October 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) To put some kind of closure to this thread... - The 35mm Summilux ASPH did sell for 1800 euros - The 50mm Summicron sold for 650 euros - No-one wants the 90mm Summicron. I've got it at 550 euros now, but if it doesn't sell, I guess I'll have to keep it Anyway, I just thought I should post back here, perhaps it is of help to others. Lessons to be learned: Never underestimate a 35mm in The Age of the M8, but longer focal lengths are hard to sell.
