MindsEye Posted October 3, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All. I know the questions I'm about to ask are probably answered in various places on this forum. But I was hoping you all could save me a few hours and answer some M8 questions that are pertinent to my decision of purchasing an M8 system. It might be important to mention that I shoot for my full time living so those of you that are also working pros or sensitive to workflow issues please consider workflow where it applies. Thanks! Here goes: 1. What happens if you forget or don't have time to enter/program the proper focal length when using the WATE 16-18-21? (I understand it defaults to 18mm but I'm looking for the ramifications- how will the resulting file be affected?) 2. When you do enter the focal length or even if it is done by the 6 bit coding- does it affect only JPEG files processed in camera or will it also affect RAW files (I pretty much shoot only RAW) 3. If it does not affect RAW files is there a way to apply vignette compensation (or whatever Leica calls it) when processing a RAW file. C1? ACR? 4. Where does one obtain the Milich (sp?) filter holder/hood combo for the WATE I've read about on the forum? (As I understand it if I use Leica's filter adapter for the IR then I lose ability to use the hood.) 5. Are the frame lines in the M8 accurately compensated? That is do you see the frame lines for 32-120? How about accuracy of these? 6. Thoughts on the Zeiss Biogon 35mm f2? (I'm considering Leica in no small part for the optics BUT cost IS a consideration and although I would rarely shoot wide open I want the ability in a pinch. I suppose I would also consider the new Summarit 2.5 thoug I lean to the cron) 7. Can a third party lens like the Zeiss Biogon be coded? Thank you all in advance! Joel OK I see a lot of you looked at my original questions but no responses- I apologize for too many questions. I think I've gotten a handle on most of them- the first 3 about the falloff compensation and a couple others. Mark Brady at Leica is checking on the issue of whether RAW files get the compensation or not. And I know I can use ACR/CS3 to correct falloff if necessary. So now let me narrow it down to Two: #4 and #6. Thanks, Joel

The vignetting compensation will be wrong - cyan or red corners 2. Vignetting compensation is done on raw files, so yes, it will. 3. CornerFix. carstenw Posted October 3, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 3, 2007 6. I haven't tried it, but Sean Reid has reviews of these lenses at http://www.reidreviews.com. It costs $32.95 and is well worth it. The Zeiss lenses tend to be very sharp, but contrasty. It is up to you if this is what you want. If not, the 35/2 IV might be for you. 7. Yes, you can use the 35/2 IV or 35/2 ASPH code. If you want to code it for real, you can unscrew the bayonet and send it to John Milich, see above. I believe he mills the holes for $25, but he can correct me if I am wrong.
