Jean-Michel Posted November 15, 2022 Share #1 Posted November 15, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I am trying to set a function button on my SL2 to toggle the focus point back to the centre. Trying to assign that function to the bottom front function button. I can select it, but get no effect – the blocus box remains where it is. Assigning the function to other button does not work either. Not sure what, if anything, I am missing. All my other selected functions work as desired. Problem solved! Keeping this post on as it may help others. The issue was that I had the camera set to face/eye detect. Setting the camera to anything other than face/eye detect makes the function work. rgacpa Posted November 17, 2022 Share #2 Posted November 17, 2022 This is what I’ve figured out, if it’s of any use to anyone but me. The first thing I did was on page 1 of the menus Focusing->AF Setup->AF Tracking Start Position->Last Position/Recall/Center. I chose last position. Then for the customization of the button just to the left of the “joy stick”, I programmed it as Toggle Focus Point. Now, when I move the focus point around, I can then return the focus point to the center by pressing the customized button. Press it again and it takes you back to the original focus point. Works with all AF Metering Settings except Multi Field and Eye/Face/Body detection. For some unknown reason in Tracking mode, I have to press the programmed button above 2X to return to center. I find this really helps in a number of situations. Especially with my old eyes, finding the small + AF indicator can be difficult, but knowing that if I press this button I can find it in the center and then press again and put it where it was. Seems to be an engineers solution that once figured out works well, but isn’t to intuitive to photographers
