filmboy Posted September 29, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a new problem with my M8. Well, it's less of a problem with the camera than a problem that the camera's causing... When walking down the street, if I see somebody wearing, say, a purple coat, I think to myself "really should have put that IR filter on the camera." Then I realise that I'm not actually looking at an M8 photo, I'm using my "eyesight," and that the coat really is purple. Is anybody else suffering from this problem, or is it the beginning of the end for me and my sanity?

filmboy Posted September 29, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted September 29, 2007 Whoah, has this forum been boring since every new user wants to tell us something about the M8 we know for a year now. You've had a similar problem with your sanity for over a year now? You should probably get some help for that...
carstenw Posted September 29, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 29, 2007 One would think the search feature was broken, or that old threads were locked, preventing new users from at least adding their comments to old threads, but in fact the search is very good, and the threads stay open forever. Anyway Pascal, I think you read this particular comment wrong. He was saying that his *eyes* are IR-sensitive

carstenw Posted September 29, 2007 Share #8 Posted September 29, 2007 All that is needed is an ND filter to calm things down.

mjh Posted September 29, 2007 Share #10 Posted September 29, 2007 Whoah, has this forum been boring since every new user wants to tell us something about the M8 we know for a year now. Oh my … are we really so serious here that we don’t get an obvious joke? Did it never occur to you that you saw a particular shade of magenta in real life and thought “Damn infrared!”, only to realize that it was really magenta? It sure happened to me …
mustafasoleiman Posted September 29, 2007 Share #11 Posted September 29, 2007 my eyesight has a fabulous bokeh eventhough my eyes back focus a bit...

Did it never occur to you that you saw a particular shade of magenta in real life and thought “Damn infrared!”, only to realize that it was really magenta? It sure happened to me … Yes, I recognized a joke. It is just that 1 year after we discovered the problem and 9 months after it has been solved, I do not find this kind of joke ha-ha funny anymore. Maybe because I heard it a zillion times.
jonoslack Posted September 29, 2007 Share #13 Posted September 29, 2007 HI Carsten Anyway Pascal, I think you read this particular comment wrong. He was saying that his *eyes* are IR-sensitive I think you've read him wrong - I think what he's saying is that the world wears purple clothes . . . . . it's something I wouldn't have credited, but I can now admit to counting purple clothes in Norwich one early day with the M8 . .. . . it was astonishing! Purple rules!
Dolce Posted September 29, 2007 Share #14 Posted September 29, 2007 Weird stuff happens to me like this all the time. I'll be sitting at a cafe and I'll see someone in the distance and I'll think ~hey I need to zoom in more~ then I'll realize I'm not a camera. Other times I frame pictures while walking down the street which is completely nomral. But then I have photoshop dillusia where I'll be like hmm that logo is cool I'll just cut and paste it onto my tshirt, then I'll realize I'm not in photoshop... Quite hard to write on paper... It's really just a weird matrix type feeling that makes me feel like I work to hard. Adam

Yes - I sympathise - all these others are missing your point - it's a purple world we live in, for better or worse. I'm astonished at quite how many purple clothes there are around . . . . and yes, my response is just the same as yours!

chris_tribble Posted September 29, 2007 Share #17 Posted September 29, 2007 HI Tom Yes - I sympathise - all these others are missing your point - it's a purple world we live in, for better or worse. I'm astonished at quite how many purple clothes there are around . . . . and yes, my response is just the same as yours! Ditto - and a lot of others on this list have gone for the jugular without reading the mail properly first. I have a backpack that got included in a shot with the M8 and I wondered if I'd left the IR filter off or something - I then went back to the backpack and was astounded by how IR degredation of the fabric had discoloured the blacks... It's a polychrome world out there, and black is not as simple as we think...
Kent10D Posted September 29, 2007 Share #18 Posted September 29, 2007 Well, I had a couple of spare 43-mm UV/IR filters that didn't fit anything, so I had my optician fashion them into a nice pair of glasses for me. Problem solved!
pklein Posted September 30, 2007 Share #19 Posted September 30, 2007 The other day I went out for dim sum lunch with several people from work (non-photographers). One of the women declared that "purple is the new black." I had to stifle my laughter. --Peter
guy Posted September 30, 2007 Share #20 Posted September 30, 2007 I'd recommend sending your eyes back to Solms and having them fixed... For me, the real problem is the absence of an Undo shortcut in real life situations. "Well, maybe those trousers make you look a little fat." Aaah! No! Apple-key-Z! Apple-key-Z!
