No one is asking for something different in the body, handling or cosmetics, they are just asking for a different focal length.

I'm confused.  A different focal length would change the body, the handling, and the cosmetics.

The lens is part of the body.  Adding a bigger lens will change the way, you interact with the camera due to body changes and weight distribution.   And, of course, it would look bigger.  A larger focal length will result in a larger lens diameter.

I think you are mistaken here. A longer focal length lens need not necessarily be larger. In fact, wide angle lenses are often bigger than standard lenses. All the 40mm lenses Leica has made are much smaller than the 28mm 1.7 in the Q. The 28mm Summilux for the M is larger than the 35mm Summilux FLE...if you are talking about a 75mm or 90mm, then yes, it would likely be larger, especially if they kept the same aperture.

There of course would likely be some changes with a different lens, but my point was more that one could use the Q in the same way and have the same interface and controls with a different lens. Take the Ricoh GRIII and GRIIIx. They are nearly identical. I have both and have had to use different straps to tell them apart without looking directly at the text on the lens.

At the same aperture?  Aperture is dependent upon focal length.  At f/1.7 a 28mm lens needs a maximum 16.5 mm diaphragm opening.  Increase the focal length to 85mm (the request in this thread) and the opening needs to increase to 50 mm.  I don't think you can stuff a 50 mm diaphragm into the same body as a 16.5mm diaphragm but I'm not a lens designer and could be wrong.
