bayerische Posted September 26, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) So my question is: Can I leave the IR filters on my lenses if switching from the M8 body to a film body?
Advertisement Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Hi bayerische, Take a look here Keeping M8 IR filters on film body. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted September 26, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 26, 2007 Probably only a viable idea if you're taking b&w shots, but what affect the lack of IR has on the film is an interesting question. AFAIK, normal b&w film is not very IR sensitive anyway.
MP3 Posted September 26, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 26, 2007 For BW pics, you may just keeping using the IR filters on your lens. For color film, if you keep in IR filters on, you will get cyan corners for lens 35mm or wider. For 50mm and up, I believe it is fine,
sean_reid Posted September 26, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 26, 2007 On film, even a 50 mm may show cyan drift (remembering, of course, that a 35 on the M8 has a 47 mm EFOV). Longer than 50 mm may be just fine but I'd take them off. No need to have extra surfaces for reflection, etc. when they aren't needed. msole Posted September 26, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 26, 2007 So my question is: Can I leave the IR filters on my lenses if switching from the M8 body to a film body? Leica just published this in their FAQ Status paper: 4.4 Can I leave the UV/IR filters attached when photographing with analogue M cameras? Leaving the UV/IR filters attached when photographing with conventional film would cause colour casts in the frame corners. Therefore, Leica recommends removing the attached UV/IR filters when using lenses from 16 to 50mm in analogue photography. If you want the full paper google this: FAQ LEICA M8 Status September 11th, 2007 Hope this helps, Magdalena
