Paul_S Posted September 25, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi to all, I have two questions regarding using the WATE with the M8. Q1: With the WATE (or WATE coded alternative) the maximum aperture value recorded in EXIF is f/1.0 (instead of f/4.0). Can any other (WATE) user confirm this behavior? If yes, is this on any buglist/wishlist for firmware? Q2: How do you change focal length for WATE with UV/IR filter in the M8, after the value has been set initially after power on or placing the lens? What I do is (counting the clicks):MENU button (1st click); select Lens Detection (=power on default in menu); SET button (2nd click); ON + UV/IR already selected; SET (3rd click) and the 16-18-21 menu shows up; choose focal length (4th click, either up or down); SET (5th click); MENU or release button (6th click). What is your preferred method (re-attach lens, power cycle?)

Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 25, 2007 Paul question 1 is correct and we asked leica at least fix that to the aperture of the lens. It is reading a WATE so it should now in the firmware it is a F4 lens and the EXIF should be able to just record that. This is something we want leica to fix in firmware Question 2 i find it easier to power off and on than reset menu that auto comes up. It's faster But we also asked for Leica to get rid of the 18mm default and remember the last setting like 21mm than power off than on and goe's to last setting and auto reset only when you take lens off and when you put lens back on get the auto menu on. i leave the UV/IR filter on all the time so i don't have to play there, set it forget it
Paul_S Posted September 25, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted September 25, 2007 Thanks for replying Guy, I am also in the 'always filter on' camp. Let's hope that Leica will improve the workflow for the WATE in the future.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 25, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 25, 2007 I'm hoping the same , some fine adjustments to the firmware to improve user speed with the WATE will be good
