RouseandFable Posted October 30, 2022 Share #1 Posted October 30, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wondering if there is an ideal iso to use when it comes to shooting video like other cameras. I believe it's 400 and 800? I've heard people compare the SL2-S to Sony's a7iii when it comes to it's low light capability but most of my footage is quite noisy and it's not even due to low light situations. I've noticed the same noise in the shadows when shooting outdoors on a bright sunny day as well. Not sure if anyone has experienced any similar issues or whether i might have a problem with my sensor. It was an ebay purchase so hoping i didn't get a lemon. Advertisement Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 Hi RouseandFable, Take a look here What is native iso for video on SL2-S?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Photoworks Posted October 30, 2022 Share #2 Posted October 30, 2022 Base iso in L-LOG is ASA 400, if you set the camera to Preview Leica Neutral LUT you can see a normalized image and you can preview exposure. It would be good to exposure correctly so you don't have to bring up exposure su much in the shadows , that is where often the noise is. Some people go to 800, but I have shot in L-Log at 3200 and I have been very happy without any noise reduction. There is also HLG, what I never use. and just simple video that can go down to 100 ISO, but it is only 8Bit and does not give you much control for post, it is like shooting JPG in camera. this last one may be good for streaming if you set it right on camera. experiment a little
hansvons Posted November 6, 2022 Share #3 Posted November 6, 2022 What Photoworks said. The footage shouldn’t be noisy, but it should show some texture, which cinematographers generally desire. To evaluate exposure better, it makes sense to use for viewing a Log2Rec709 LUT, which Leica provides in the camera. Without such a LUT, Log footage quickly becomes underexposed and you have to lift luminance in post, increasing the visible noise. I use ISO 800 and can only say best things. Be aware that the SL2/S cameras are HDR video cameras using the Rec2020 colour space. Dropping L-Log material on a Rec709 timeline without an conversion LUT at the end of the pipeline will lead to reddish skin tones and cyan-tinted blue sky.
