pekem Posted September 22, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Please can anyone tell me if there is a trick to removing the eye piece in order to install a correction lens? Mine appears to not want to unscrew with finger strength and I can't bring myself to apply any mechanical aid.
Advertisement Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Hi pekem, Take a look here Removing eyepiece. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Kent10D Posted September 22, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 22, 2007 The correction lenses screw directly into the eyepiece. You don't have to remove anything (unless there's already something else attached to it).
pekem Posted September 22, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted September 22, 2007 Well now I feel really stupid! Thank you so much.

The diopter and or 1.25x magnifier screws directly into the eye piece. You need a special ring wrench to remove the eye piece, at least not to damage it when removing, BUT YOU DON'T NEED TO REMOVE IT.
Kent10D Posted September 22, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 22, 2007 My pleasure. And there's no need to feel stupid at all. The fact that I know the answer doesn't necessarily mean that I didn't find out the hard way.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 22, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 22, 2007 Better to ask a stupid question and get the right answer than be really stupid and screw up a 5k body. Now that is smart in my book. It's all a learning curve and don't feel that way, it was a brillant question in the end
lars_bergquist Posted September 23, 2007 Share #7 Posted September 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Note that all M cameras, at least since the M2, use the same strength eyepieces that fit with the same thread (note that I am here speaking of eyepieces/oculars, not correction lenses). So you can exchange an old metal-rimmed eyepiece for a modern rubber-rimmed one even on old cameras. I did that with my M4-P in order not to have my progressive spectacles scratched to death.
