I am really impressed by the M8 sensitivity to low light!

I would have never been able to shoot this ith my M6...

1250iso, -2.0ev, 1/4 hand held, 35cron at f2!

There was almost no light.

Nice shot. Definitely better than my r8/DMR and film of course in terms of noise, but is it good enough? The good thing is that the noise will show less in prints than on the screen. I've not shot color film for a long time....does the grain not match the colors thereby making it less pronounced? Seems like more color noise than film but less grain?

Attached is a portrait I took of a friend of mine at ISO 3200 with a canon 5D and 135mm f/2 lens at 1/25th of a second - hand held. I was very impressed with it but would have liked more.

Again the M8 is significantly better than the DMR in terms of noise but not really what I would consider good when compared to other makes. Not trying to knock the M8 - it has much better color and DR than the canons but its strong suit is not high ISO. The great Leica glass and absence of mirror slap will allow you to shoot with lower ISO and shutter.

YMMV

Eric Hiss

The amunt of information retained in the shadows is a pleasure to discover.

Fun thread and great shots all around everyone...

I really like the second one - country scene. The silhouettes of the people...well done!

Thanks a lot, Roger and Jon,

The light just was like that and with a M8 with a WATE mounted on it was an easy take. Here's another. From the habour of Helsinki with this ex light ship, now restaurant. The dramatic sky turned into a hell of a rainfall which I was sure was going to drown the M8. It didn't.

Thanks Newyorkone, I thought they added some intimacy to the picture, and tanks everyone for the comments and for making this an interesting thread... I think there is a great potential for low or no light photography with the M8, and being one who always loved shooting the night, I am really excited.

If it doesn't bother anyone I will post some more shots, once I unpack from my trip to Milan (btw, a great city to photograph at night as they are pretty stingy about street lighting!).

C'mon, let's see what we can do with this baby...
