M6J Posted September 19, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted September 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) OK, nothing serious really, but it was my first little "ooops!": Menu>Sensor Cleaning>Inspect sensor>Yes>Press shutter release>Freeze Everything frozen, switch to "Off", nothing happened, remove battery for 10 seconds, put it back>everything back to normal. I did the same series again, everything worked as it should and I inspected the sensor normally. I wonder, is there a place or thread where we can write our remarks to be used for a future firmware fix, just in case noone else reported it before? Olsen Posted September 19, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted September 19, 2007 Talked with a guy here in Norway who experienced some kind of strange 'freeze' in connection with the sensor cleaning sequence. He had to send the camera to Solms. That was two months ago....
rvreis Posted September 19, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted September 19, 2007 The same happened to me! But I thought it was somehow related with the fact that the speed selector was at the time in B position. Â Â r.
bradreiman Posted September 19, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted September 19, 2007 dont think its firmware-its just electronics. they freeze sometimes. the fix is t take the battery out and replace it...b
Shootist Posted September 19, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted September 19, 2007 Same thing has happend to every M8 owner, and will continue to happen at random times. It's just part of the Leica M8 mystique . Â Lets face it the computer in the M8 isn't the fastest that has ever been used in a camera and it get confused sometimes. Confusion = Freeze. Vieri Posted September 19, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted September 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) It has happened to me two or three times, fixed by taking off the battery and putting it on again (a common fix for many of the M8's quirks...) without waiting 10 minutes, it works the same way if you put it back in immediately. I hope Leica will include this in a fix - it's somehow inconvenient to have to deal with it - but at the same time I think there are more urgent priorities in the fix list, generally when one is cleanins one's sensor one has time to spend, and the extra 15 seconds to remove and reinsert the battery aren't - IMHO - the end of the world. On the other hand: should it be just working without all this? Yes, I do think it should...
papimuzo Posted September 20, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted September 20, 2007 I subscribe entirely to your remark Ed. I can induce this type of "sleeping state" for my M8 at will: try the switching sequence On-Off-On quickly and you are good for the battery remove re-install process:rolleyes: BTW, since early description of SDS I feel that the M8 circuit managing/surveying the battery voltage is not full prove (the T2 syndrome? ). All the best.
pklein Posted September 20, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted September 20, 2007 The same thing happened to me. I was cleaning my sensor last week in a hotel room near Yellowstone National Park. Turned the switch to Off. Nothing happened. Scared the heck out of me, but I removed the battery, and all was well. Â --Peter

--Peter Usually it happens at the start of Clean Sensor, IE select Clean Sensor and hit the shutter release and nothing happens and you can't turn the camera off or do anything with it. I have never had it happen at the end of cleaning the sensor.

I have never had it happen at the end of cleaning the sensor. Â PanaLeica/Oly have a very effective sensor cleaning system, in fact probably the best currently available. Â Why doesn't Leica license it for use on the Ms fer Pete's sake? Â If Panasonic wants to brand image their lenses with the Leica logo I would think that the sensor cleaning tech would be a nice addition to the contract Leica has with them. I have never had it happen at the end of cleaning the sensor. Â Now that DOES sound like a firmware bug. Either that or there is more load on the battery at this point for some reason that's pulling down the main bus voltage. Â Has anyone tried this with a flat battery, then trying this with a freshly charged battery?
Kent10D Posted September 20, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted September 20, 2007 try the switching sequence On-Off-On quickly and you are good for the battery remove re-install process:rolleyes: Â Yes, that'll do it! That's how I had my own (and fortunately singular, thus far) freeze experience. Flipped the switch on, went a bit too far to the "C" setting, flipped it back, went a bit far to the "OFF" setting, finally managed to flip it back to the "S" setting ... but this was all to fast and confusing for my poor M8. Battery removal fixed it.
