gogopix Posted September 19, 2007 Share #21 Posted September 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) although not 'official' Eclise 2 may really be better for the M8 since it is ethanol based and thus a heavier solvent, whereas Exclse is methanol (I believe) and lighter and therefore more aggressive against coatings and the bonding of the cover glass. These also have different reactions with the different IR coverglass coatings and bonds. E is recommended for the DMR and E2 was specifically developed tyo be milder for the newer M8 like sensors. So far I have heard no issue with either, but E2 on M8 may be safer FTR, I use E, E2 and sensor swabs, and find they are more consistent in cleaning than Visible dust or other swabs.(in typical fumble fingers style, when I first received my DMR, I got finger grease on the sensor while struggling with the assembly. Panic! Ran out, got E and SS and with one swipe, was pristine againm.) Victor

wparsonsgisnet Posted September 19, 2007 Share #23 Posted September 19, 2007 ... I've mentioned before a few times that if you are worried about wet cleaning, try practicing by sprinkling paprika on a blank CD and "cleaning" it ... Mark, I missed this recommendation somehow. Nice suggestion. Use Country Music?
dougdarter Posted September 19, 2007 Share #24 Posted September 19, 2007 I would really be rather loathe to clean my M8 sensor with anything other than a rocket, unless it got so bad that you could see marks at anything larger than f8. The lack of an anti-aliasing glass filter means that you are cleaning the sensor face, rather than with moth others, where you are cleaning the glass filter. I'd be happier taking it to a professional, who knows what he is doing, and has plenty of practice, and whose insurance will cover any 'mishaps'. Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 19, 2007 Share #25 Posted September 19, 2007 Doug you are cleaning the cover glass and not the sensor . the sensor on any digital camera or back has a cover glass. There never exposed. Actually the cover glass on the M8 i believe contains the IR filter in it

I feel much happier now.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 19, 2007 Share #27 Posted September 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) That is a scary thought. Yes everyone has a cover glass and sometimes they include the IR filter in it and than of course some have AA filters which the M8 thankfully does not. The M8 does have micro lenses but I am sure that is under the glass. be interesting to see a side view of this so we can see the layers
