SL2 with Sigma MC-21 adapter flare issues

Hello all, 

I was shooting some interiors the other day with my SL2, attaching the Canon 24mm TSE shift lens via a Sigma MC-21, and I noticed there seems to be a distinct loss of contrast and flaring issues I hadn't experienced when using it on the Canon system. Anyone else experienced this? Doing more testing, it could, of course be the lens, but it's clean and seems to be fine.

Keen to hear if anyone else has had other experiences like this.. It does stand to reason that older lenses not designed for this system wouldn't perform as well, but this does seem like a dramatic difference. Cheers!

I have no issues with this combo. I also have the PC Super Angulon 28 mm. This lens is extremely sensitve for light from the side.

I am using the combo SL2 and MC 21 with following Canon EF lenses:. Macro 180 mm, Macro 100 mm  (non L version,) and MP-E 65- With these lenses I have noticed no issues.

Are you using the new version of the 24 TSE lens?

I use the latest 24mm TS-E all the time and most of the time and don't have this issues.

The 17 TSE lens is very sensitive to lights from sides , I use a a cardboard to block does lights.

Shift lenses have a larger image circle, so there's more light bouncing around in side your camera. In this case you've got strong side light from the window, and probably another side window out of frame.

The solution is likely to be a "French flag" cine shade, or some other adjustable lens shade.

You should of course check that the flare isn't coming through the adapter-to-camera or adapter-to-lens connections. That's easy enough to do: shine a strong light toward the camera from the side, until you can see flare in your image. Use a piece of black card, or even your hand, to shade the lens barrel, and see if the flare disappears.

yeah absolutely, but even still I would have ordinarily expected it to handle better than this. 

 

Your torch through the side sounds like a good idea, just gave it a try, but alas (maybe not alas?) nothing seems to be leaking through. . I've got a Cambo compendium shade from my Cambo rig I might try as well to control flare.. overkill but might do the trick.

I wonder if because these are longer they're less susceptible to light ending up where it shouldn't be. Thanks for your reply!
