hcklr Posted September 13, 2022 Share #1 Â Posted September 13, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I purchased (used) a 24-90 to go with the 90 APO SL and 90-280 for my SL2S work system yesterday. I don't know how it's supposed to feel as I don't use a lot of quite heavy zoom lenses, but the zoom range on it feels pretty heavy and dare I say a little "stiff" for lack of better word, especially as it get closer to 75-90mm. Is this normal on this lens? I wouldn't call it an issue, it just feels somewhat slow to zoom through the range and the zoom from 50-90 for sure feels heavy and slow. Hope that makes sense. Would love any feedback! Thanks. Edited September 13, 2022 by hcklr Spelling
Advertisement Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Hi hcklr, Take a look here How "heavy" is the zoom on your 24-90?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
thatkatmat Posted September 13, 2022 Share #2 Â Posted September 13, 2022 No, it should be smooth and even like your 90-280.
Photoworks Posted September 14, 2022 Share #3  Posted September 14, 2022 It should be the same feeling in every focal length If it gets stock at some point there is a loose screw in the zoom element.
Jeff S Posted September 14, 2022 Share #4 Â Posted September 14, 2022 Latest FW allows for adjusting focus throw, but should be smooth throughout, regardless. Jeff

SoarFM Posted September 14, 2022 Share #6  Posted September 14, 2022 I wouldn’t want my zoom to be fast and loose, but if it’s binding that is quite another thing. If you have a Leica store or stocking dealer nearby I would check with them. You can adjust focus throw in menu system, but it doesnt seem you are talking about focus. Thanks! Sorry to confuse… I mistakenly was referring to manual focus ring smoothness, not the zoom ring action. Bottom line, though, both should be smooth throughout the respective turns. Kristofferpaulsen Posted September 17, 2022 Share #9 Â Posted September 17, 2022 I find mine definitely on the stiff side, not unpleasantly so.. but stiff enough that it doesn't just sag out like my old Canon 24-70 did.. but definitely not difficult to turn, that doesn't sound quite right if that's the case.. Â I personally find focus by wire super annoying and hard to use on any system compared to the old mechanical way, so I shouldn't think your focus barrel should be difficult either? hoppyman Posted September 20, 2022 Share #10 Â Posted September 20, 2022 My 24-90 is several years old. The zoom operation has remained firm, but not excessively so and is completely smooth in operation in both directions. It does not retract itself when the camera held lens uppermost but of course does so if camera and lens rested facedown. I might wish for a full-time available MF function as with the S System but that is a system characteristic, not a lens fault
