Advertisement Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Hi logan2z, Take a look here Leica film Ms are made in Wetzlar. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Huss Posted September 4, 2022 Author Share #22  Posted September 4, 2022 Interestingly, or not.. the R8 was labelled Made In Portugal.  My R9 is labelled Made in Germany.  So Leica moved production from Portugal to Germany for that?  Seems they would go the other way round to save money! (the video shows the R9 made in Wetzlar).  My motor drive shows Made in Portugal (for the R9), while my currently produced (I think) Winder M for the M series 14408 says Made in Portugal. It just seems strange that if everything is made in Portugal, they only label some of it as such.  Personally I think Portugal is an absolutely lovely country!  And much better than having Leica gear made in some sort of frozen tundra like Canada.....  who would want that? 😜

For one thing, it looks like it is engraved "Leica Camera AG, Germany" on the top plate but Leica haven't styled themselves like this for a long time. The lens on it looks like the first version of the 35mm Summicron ASPH which IMO also dates the camera to some time ago. It might be an à la carte camera but I don't remember the MP being available with M7 features. More likely some weird mash-up of parts from a decade or so ago. The lens doesn't mean much, as I could put a v1 Cron on an M11, that doesn't change the fact that the camera is a brand new M11. What is weird (at least for me) is I've never seen that shutter speed dial before.  An an MP w/ an M7 on/off switch? etc  Is the pic even real or a computer generated image? Basically it looks like an M7 w/ a different shutter speed dial and MP engraved on it.

Where is the MP engraving? From what I can see it reads M7 on the top plate. So in my view, this is simply an á la carte version of the M7 camera, as it was available for quite a number of years to the best of my knowledge.

Ok, I'm starting to see it could be a 7 if the font has a curve to the bottom of the 7. The file that was uploaded was literally named: "Leica_M7_Summicron_35_ASPH". Still doesn't explain that shutter dial, though.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Some highlights for the non-German speaking folks and my observations re: the video in general: - One department bitches about other departments' flawed assembly of shutter release (spring came loose), the other department complains about black lacquer scratches on bodies... they even check what worker (it's worker #25) messed up lol... not the best PR IMHO. - The film cameras featured here are apparently being produced with 100.000 shots / 3000 films in mind and that is supposedly the amount any modern film Leica must endure. A robot arm releases the shutter and triggers the camera in a very slow pace to test this in the video. - They show the climate chamber where Leicas are tested for cold and hot environments. Any Leica should, according to them, endure temperatures from -25 degrees C to + 55 degrees C. A VERY important piece of info for this forum. - They show the "secret steamer chamber" where lens' light transmission is increased by 70% after the Leica "secret process" - There is a huge amount of additional control after each process is done - They show OVF alignment dept. and acrylic injection painting of letters - Nobody wears gloves 😑 - The absolute highlight is the packing of the cameras in them silver boxes by a visibly bored female worker to the tunes of Aerosmith's "Crazy". And all in a very old video shot at Solms (the R9 was discontinued in 2009). Riveting stuff 🙂 .

Yes, of course, but most of the new stuff gets demoed and/or marketed with the latest APO lenses. As for the shutter dial, I’m sure I’ve seen this on some M7 a la carte cameras. Thanks for the 'translation'!  Even though I could not understand what that lady was saying, I could tell from the mannerisms that it was a gripe fest! It is funny that allowed that in the video, as well as the other QC issues.  It now makes you realize how all the QC issues make it through to the stuff we buy from them!  Even though they of course include that signed quality inspection card.
