k_g_wolf ✝ Posted August 15, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 15, 2006 It´s a METZ- product, AFAIK METZ produces them for LEICA. So you won´t have a difference comparing a similar METZ flashlight with the SF20. With my R7 I use a METZ flash type 40 (can´t recall it´s proper name right now), works perfectly. For your R8 it should probably also be a slightly bigger type of flash to exploit it´s full potential. Best

masjah Posted August 16, 2006 Share #4 Posted August 16, 2006 Bill I've got the SF20, and, within its limitations, it's an excellent and rugged piece of kit. Main advantage is its compactness. For the limited use I make of flash, it's just fine for me. The obvious alternative for the R8/9 is the Metz 54MZ with the correct SCA adapter. This has much higher GN (54 vs 20), tilt-head, with small auxiliary direct flash also, zooming relfector for optimising use with different focal lengths, and HSS (R9 not R8). The latter though is more expensive, bulkier and heavier. As usual, it's horses for courses.
