Hello, everyone I'm a Leica newbie with M6

I've never considered myself as a good photographer but I'm not new to photography, not less than 10 years holding slr, doing it just for a hobby, never getting too serious.

Then, the moment came, my good friend (he is a pro) was taking my wedding with his 1Ds MkII (color) & M6 (B&W), 1Ds MkII gives truly amazing output (honest quote from a nikonian), but M6 is really an eye opener, I couldn't even close my mouth, checking picture by picture, details by details. It's sharp, I mean real sharp!

"It's not the car but the driver" and I couldn't agree more with this statement, plus my friend is one of the best photographer I know, but believe me I know the different :)

I became obsessed to Leica, a (non have) Leica freak, browsing, buying some books, asking friends, definitely thirsty for a Leica!

Finally, my friend wanted to sell his M6 for an MP, I was in the front row :D

signing up to l-camera-forum to get (MUCH) better knowledge, buy a new 35mm ASPH summicron.

Then, Here I am ready to go :)

Hi and welcome!

Great to hear that you are happy with your M6! I have one myseelf and even though I've had it for quite many years now it just continues to amaze me!

Good choice and I'm looking forward to healthy discussions and some pictures!

Best regards

Thx Carl, thx Mark, I'm very grateful...

I have a few books of Leica, just bought them from amazon. But, I haven't read them all and could be much more fun hearing a real life experience.

what do you guys think I have to aware in terms of getting the "new" system, rangefinder?

advantages and disadvantages?

Thx a lot

Welcome to this forum.

Like all things in life also a RF camera has it's advantages and disadvantages. Working in a low light senario is great, tele is less accurate.

Best bett is from 21mm through 90mm, RF coupled up from 28mm - 90mm. But also some C.V. (Cosina-Voigtländer) W.A. lenses can be great on the M. (e.g. super wide Heliar 4,5/15mm).

Further with no mirror and such a silent shutter you can go to 1/8S by hand with a bit of experience. High resolution films: iso 100 (Tmax 100, Delta 100, Acros 100), very high resolution fine grain films like Pan F, Rollei PAN 25, Efke 25, Technical Pan films: Rollei ATP-V1 (just in my Leica M7 for testing) and even micro films (iso 10-25) (SPUR Orthopan UR) combined with aperture lenses up from 1,0 .

Best regards,

Robert

Thx, Confusion Circle...

I believe you have a nice M6T, and never have a chance to get bored with that fantastic piece of kit :)

Thx, Robert...

Yes, I'm planning to add a couple of lens more in my arsenal, but still searching which suit me best, and since the price of the leica lenses are premium so I search really carefully...

I can see your point that rangefinder doesn't work at it best when it comes to tele shooting, and I agree with that. I have my eye on 75mm f/1.4 Summilux or a 50mm Nocti for my next purchase, but I've seen many argument pros & cons especially for the Nocti.

Have you have any experiences with those two?

Thanks a lot guys

No, because I am travelling light with my M7: C.V. 4,5/15mm, Elmarit 2,8/28mm, Summicron 2,0/50mm and I think I would like to add for more portrait work the new Summarit 2,5/75mm. All lenses are very compact and not very bulky. But like with everything: It's just what you want.
