My brother in law (who shoots Sony) said I was wrong to spend $3000 to repair my S2P, but I couldn’t keep a $20k brick.  I got it back from Wetzlar a few months ago, and today was the first time I have used it in a few years.  The 007 had done all of my work.

I learned some valuable lessons:  The S2P produces sharper images with the mirror-up function.  The functionality of the S2P and the Leica Image Shuttle ver 3.6 is improved over the 007.  Finally, the David Farkas preset for the S2 is superior to the one for the 007.  That last lesson is most important, because I am color blind and have been chasing a solution from 2012 until I found the X Rite Color Checker Passport a few months ago.

Agreed. If you are not someone who can easily discriminate color, and you want a camera that just gets it right almost all the time, the S2 and S006 are hard to beat. I know the S007 has a lot of use advantages over the S006, but I always felt it was a downgrade in the file quality at base ISO, which is all I ever really needed anyway. When I finally did get rid of it, it was to trade for the S3, which sadly enough, I did not like as much as the S006 either. So whether it is crazy to pay 3000 dollars to fix your S2? I would say probably not. The market does not value that camera so highly anymore, but the images it produces are still better than 99% of cameras, including whatever Sony your brother in law shoots.

Good to hear :) I made the same call when the mirrorbox and sensor failed on my S006. Cost of repair (USD3k) meant there were plenty of other options, especially since I already own the S3. The S006 does produce unique colors imho, which made me go for the fix. The repaired body came back in perfect shape, super smooth operation - good as new.

You probably have already, but if not, I recommend trying different color profiles for the S3. The Cobalt and Leica profiles are more S2-like than the Adobe ones, and both are much* better than the 007.

*Ok, I still prefer the 007 to any non-S camera with the possible exception of some Phase One backs, so "much" is relative.

If you use the camera and enjoy the results, then your brother-in-law was wrong.  Simple as that.  As you’ve owned the S2P, S006, S007 and S3, seems that $3k is a nit in the scheme of things, especially considering it brought a useless camera to life. Good insurance might even cover the expense.

My S2-P has the sensor cover glass cracked. Is it still repairable? Have you got it repaired lately?  I'd be happily paying 3K to have it revived.

Absolutely. When I sent my S2-P to Leica late last year with the same issue they repaired it free of charge (even though it was way out of warranty). Don't expect the same outcome, though, as I think that I just got lucky!

Repair is still possible. I asked them a week ago because I was thinking of buying a 006 with corrosion and get it repaired.

Did they indicate how much would it cost?

"IMG" I imagine is the sensor.

If you have someone in the UK that could buy and send you this 006 it has a new sensor (as confirmed by Leica). At £1,899 that's cheaper than a sensor replacement.

Thank you. But this one does not have the sensor replaced. Also, I love my s2-p. It looks prettier than the S006 and has strong emotional value to me.
